My question is, would this style dog house build withstand a downpour without getting wet inside? I live in a wet climate.
@NikitaMaree
@NikitaMaree Ай бұрын
Good question Paula. I don’t live in wet climate. But we do get a couple weeks straight of flood rain each year. I usually lift the dog kennel up on 4 bricks, during this time so it isn’t sitting in ground water for days on end. If I lived in a wet climate I would consider using a scrap piece of corrugated iron for the roof instead. But because the roof is at such a steep pitch, I haven’t had water leak in. I also keep this up against the house wall, so it has the extra protection of the house eaves. Good luck with searching for the design you like. 👍

@NikitaMaree hey thank you so much for replying to my comment. It's rare these days to get a reply. There are a lot of chained dogs around where I live that don't have shelters, and it breaks my heart. I bought some power tools and I am planning on building houses for them. I have 0 experience with building anything like this. I hope I can be as good as you are. I only bought a skill saw, jigsaw, and sander. We have an impact drill. I still need to buy screws. But I hope using pallets will be enough to make most of the dog houses. The corrugated roof should be good also. I wonder if it would be cheaper to use shingles?
@NikitaMaree

Thank you for your kind words. That sounds like a very nice collection of tools to start off with. And also sounds like a really lovely thing you are doing for the local dogs. I am sure you will do great. I have never completed a project without running into at least a few problems. So if you are struggling with a section, know that I did too. I have never used or priced shingles before. That could definitely be a good option. I usually have access to reclaimed corrugated iron, so that’s why I try and use it when I can.

@NikitaMaree 4 ай бұрын
Thanks Steve. I don't really like pallet busters that much. I find that I end up with a lot more split boards. Same for most others I have spoken too, who have also used one. The crowbar is quick and efficient if you know how to use it 👍

Did this exact thing just with a hacksaw instead of a grinder and with vegetable oil instead of salt water. Worked really well actually. The bolt seemed to bend a tiny bit when I quenched it but it didn't seem to be a problem.

I just threw all my scrap roof brads in with Vinegar from a roof removal then suspect Iron acetate. Then will purify into a powder (by boiling off the liquid) and throw it in my garden to help with Iron deficiency, as I suspect its soil acids like humic and fulvic that chelate the iron oxide to make it plant available. I know iron chelate and Iron sulfate are sold for plant iron deficiency and I see no harm in seeing if Iron acetate is a home made alternative, once its powdered. Or it might help speed up the soil unlocking it, in that form. Either way its free, besides the cost of the vinegar.

In America that would cost $100 to build. A bix of screws is like $20 a gal of paint is another $20
@NikitaMaree
@NikitaMaree Жыл бұрын
I used the equivalent of 0.03 of a US Gallon of stain (150ml) so that's 60cents USD. I used half a box of 25mm screws $8 ($16 full box) and one third of a box of 40mm screws $9 ($27 full box) so your $20 box of screws is right in the middle. Not sure why this would cost you $100 to build?
