Hey there just curious how the background of this enclosure has held up? Considering cork panel for an upcoming build!

Cool! Thanks for taking us along. I was surprised that the Twin Cities Reptile Expo here in MN had so many dart frogs, and it really got me into the hobby! It's definitely cool to see how other vendors sell and display their frogs.

Unfortunately, you will not enjoy the back wall for long. The cork dissolves over time and falls off the wall in pieces. Take rather something more durable if the terrarium should last long.
@robitomeya9842 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the info. I guess we will see how long this lasts. The cork was relatively inexpensive and if it doesn’t pan out than that gives me an excuse to make another viv!

People have been using these cork board backgrounds for a while now with success. I guess it depends on the brand, maybe the ones you’ve seen are not as compact as others
@sdqsdq6274 Жыл бұрын
@@TheTropicalYard personally i dont see cork as a good background since it doesnt absorb water , there another type which look even raw looking then this

Can these guys do ok in large tanks with more than a pair in the tank? Just asking because I like these guys and have a large custom tank that I have used for darts in the past but say I ended up with a pair and they had offspring, do I have to move them out or can you have a tank with 3-5 of them? I dont really care all that much about breeding to sell but I obviously wouldn't pull clutches so the don't develop.
@robitomeya9842 жыл бұрын
Large obligates should only be kept in a pair because they are very aggressive. I keep offspring in the tank till 3 or so months then move them to there own enclosure. I’ve had pairs fight before then breed a month later.

Yeah I did think about that when I made the decision to move to all large o. Atleast I still have 8 sirensis offspring in bins so technically I still own Ranitomeya lol

Wow; just managed to stumble across your channel via the algorithm on another account. Awesome enclosures, dude! Raising amphibians is something I can only hope to do in the future, and it's awesome you're getting them to reproduce for you. Cheers!
@robitomeya9842 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s not a difficult hobby. Just a large startup cost. There is little maintenance. Surprisingly it is very easy to have most dart frogs breed In captivity. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

What plant did you use in the plastic bins and do you now some other plants that dont need extra lighting
@robitomeya9842 жыл бұрын
I use a mix of philodendron. Micans, camposportoanum, verrucosum and mamei. I would recommend pathos or micans as cheap lowlight plants for bins.

Are you concerned that the froglets disappear into the cork hollows forever ? Not being able to monitor growth and condition.
@robitomeya9842 жыл бұрын
I was in the beginning, so I stuffed some extra sphagnum moss in the ends. But when the tube eventually breaks down there will be holes throughout. So filling with expandable foam is probably the best idea. In nature they go through hollowed out logs, so I also don’t think it’s a big deal.

0:32 you should pin the melanochrysum to the cork so it can get some nice big leaves. When growing into the air without support, their leaves remain small.
