Does this not feel a bit like segregation, like it needs to be made clear if ANY disability is existent?

No, because this is completely choice based. If you opt to represent the sunflower it's based on subtlety and privacy without you having to disclose everything.

I too have FND. I describe it as if I were in my kitchen with all my lovely working appliances. If I've decided to make a snack, I press the button on the toaster and instead of the toaster turning on the stove lights up. I open the refrigerator and the blender starts to whir. All of my appliances are working, however, the messages are being sent to the wrong appliance or in the wrong way. You could even say, the hardware in my nervous system is working, but my software has some devious malware at work causing any number of disruptions. Thank you so much for sharing this very important and timely message!

What a great interview! We really aren't aware enough of conditions like these and how they affect people's everyday lives! This is so helpful for non-disabled people to understand how they can support and empower people with FND and Fibromyalgia.

I wish there was one for neck support. I have arthritis in my neck and I kinda fear ending up unconscious and in the hospital while there pillows may not be supportive of my neck so I’ll have to feel with that for days/weeks after the fact.

I’ve been going through isolation trying seeking connection with others overtime. I noticed the sunflower lanyard is not much past the US airports . I’m looking to create a series of grassroots movements leading to the sunflower power movement . Programs publishes projects, donations of energy of different types from contributors banding together, making small peaces to help bridge gaps between communities . Demonstration stations . With for example, literature, whether bookmarks cards, postcards books, zines fanzines magazines recipes menus developed on the sunflower Café cart style stations. Worm / sunflower , etc Gardening farming, activities exercises, experiments lessons, help support one another. (ALLy 4 United Stations) A4US Presents LiViNg MaTtErS

I'm so sorry Martin to hear of your illness my heart goes out to you. I suffer very badly with nerve pain and chronic migraines fibromyalgia etc. the nerve pain is in my pelvis and worse on my left doctors of all sorts don't know what is the cause and alot of the doctors are at a loss and gave up on me and sent me to a pain consultant and anything that he does hasn't helped me . I've had lodiocane infusions ketamine infusions and put on venaflaxeine but I'm still in so much pain and discomfort. I can't lie flat on my back as it triggers nerve pain in my left glute which goes then into my saddle region, I can't lie on my left side and definitely can't sit at all. Standing is not possible for to long, I can only lie on my right side which is getting sore from always being on my side. How it all started was lower back pain with pins and needles in saddle region and inner legs so I was given an epidural nerve block into my sacrum which was like a bomb going off it gave me new nerve pain and made my old nerve pain 100times worse. I'm already on Lyrica and on venaflaxeine so I'm being told there is nothing else that can be done only another pundendal neuralgia nerve block and after the nerve block into my sacrum I am to afraid to get it done. So I feel doomed.

As a member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower myself, awareness is important as I'm with an employer that has embraced my Hidden Disabilities and the Sunflower lanyard.

It is so important that employers look at their disability inclusion processes and the Sunflower can be a useful tool to help achieve that.

I love this campaign. I have both a visible disability and invisible disabilities. Every single person that I have spoken to has absolutely no idea what the sunflower lanyard represents. Many people think I wear it because I like sunflowers ! If I tell them it’s something to do with disability, they still have no clue. Do you think it’s time that the campaign was reignited in the general media?
@Azzi092111 ай бұрын
Recently diagnosed in June 2023 that backdates to my childhood, Awareness is a Must! I also think the word 'disability' needs to be changed from being used on those with Autism as it's a difference, not a disability. Let me know what you think on this.

I myself have autism and I agree that we need to raise more awareness of hidden disabilities, but I wouldn't go as far as to say every day should be Autism Awareness Day, as there are so many other issues that need awareness as well.

I wish we didn’t need this. But seeing as everyone is always ALWAYS assumed to be able it’s very frustrating and sometimes embarrassing to disclose my disabilities to a stranger. You never know what someone is going through. You don’t know a stranger. Be patient for everyone. Disliking someone for their disability before knowing they have a disability is still ableist in nature and those feelings need to be challenged. I appreciate the support for the hidden disability community. It forces people to challenge their views on those of us who just need more support.

Not them using Aspergers, an outdated term named after a fucking nazi that also correlates to the myth that there is a thing as high-functioning and low-functioning autism, which was historically used in eugenics 💀

What absolute BULL! I have a lanyard and it does NOTHING for me, the stupid stores who supposedly "support" the scheme don't want to know whenever I try and take them up on their offer, they won't turn off their stupid insane torturing radio will they? OH NO! They won't even listen and only totally avoid the subject and only treat me like absolute SCUM! So a fat lot of good this useless little green thing is, it's a complete waste of space! And what about far more severe MISOPHONIA?! THAT too is a hidden disability that utterly RUINS entire lives!

I have multiple invisible conditions , I do not like the word illness,sickness or disability so I use the term Bumps in the road of life or just the word conditions.

For those confident and self-assured people who have a disability and are happy to broadcast this fact to the world, wearing a (very indiscreet) token and publicly displaying the fact, might be great. For those people who value their privacy, there is nothing about this option that is good for them. Many people would rather not broadcast the fact that they have particular challenges in life and they have every right to value their privacy and not make their personal situation a topic of frenzie, idle chat, ridicule, unwanted attention, inquiry, sympathy, do-gooder's or insincere concern. How about people being kinder and more understanding to others as a matter of life choices. This really is a mask to the poor state of individuals and the society that some live in.
