Many (most) older people like myself, like to pretend that we are not any lesser, now that we are older. The fashion in Australia is to deny any effects of ageing. Pretending to cope as well as anyone, to prove that we are capable and young, as always. Any wrong decisions, planning failures and other weaknesses are denied. How do we deal with such fantasy living in the people we know?

I was able to get rid of the papers from kindergarten and all the things from the school years when my son was a kid and they were turning ugly brown and moldy, so I took pictures of the "art" and then i was capable to throw them away, I still have a long way to go, closets and attic, is overwhelming just to think about it I feel I can die without finishing cleaning/declutering specially the decision making

I was perfectly fine in my home, that's until I invited people over and they said I have too much stuff. Now I feel guilty having "too much stuff". I felt worse when one of my kids threw some of my stuff away that I had in my garage 😢. Good thing I was able to rescue it before the garbage truck picked it up, because it was things that I needed. But she did that because she needed space to put her stuff 😕😡

I wasn't searching this topic on KZbin but I am glad I stumbled across this video. The two of you did a great job of breaking down the differences between the effects of normal aging versus Alzheimer's. Marilyn is very engaging, isn't she? One thing that I wasn't clear about by the end is whether a person who is developing Alzheimer's would realize himself or herself that there is a problem. Is it more like, "if you think you might have Alzheimer's then you probably don't"? Or does the person have some degree of awareness that something is wrong with him/her?

The people sense that their memory isn't as sharp. In mild cognitive impairmet one does eventually remember. Whereas a person with dementia can not retrieve the info because of the illness

I have an appointment coming up soon with a doctor, l think he's a psychologist. I am doing this appointment by " zoom", instead of travelling to the city. I think that l was told that l had mild cognitive impairment, not sure, but l seem to remember this. I am worried as to whether l have dementia. I forget things, events, where l put things, and l don't like to socialize, as l don't have anything in common with the people in my building. I prefer to go for long walks, preferring to walk with another person, but in the 2, 1/2 years l've been in this independant living facility, l can rarely find anyone to walk with. I go from 4km to 8km.l am elderly and use a walker, but the misplacing things, constantly having to look at my phone , as l forget the date, referring to my calendar of events often throughout the day, doesn't seem normal. When l attempt to join in with a group of people, l rarely have anything to say.So l prefer to be alone, not liking the lonliness, but it's too frustrating being with others, and not contributing to the conversation. I'll write more after my ( scarey) appointment. Suzi.

Getting everyone to the table is the challenge. Its most difficult when the ones who are helping are willing and those who are not helping the parents are unwilling. The willing ones will want to move forward but this may not be the best way. I learned from your video is to try to re-frame words so they won't trigger negativity.

Im aware of an ongoing case in harris county whereas the ward is listed as totally incapacitated, but the ward has passed 3 mental exams but is still listed as totlally incapacitated. I believe this would be a good case to get behind because if she wins this could be a breaking point for future cases whereas a ward actually objects and has filed objections to the guardians eighth accounting and has proved that the guardian stole money, and that the trustee knowingly allowed the guardian to exploit the wards finances. the ward have a law suit filed but the guardian ad litem and the attorney ad litems are blatantly trying to force the ward to dismiss her objections and complaints. the ward has requested a jury trial, and requested restoration, but the attorney ad litems will not allow the ward to receive a hearing.
