My grandfather was one of those lost on HMS POW. There is a feeling he died needlessly. Had he died on HMS Hood you would understand it. Your on a battleship and this is what happens. To die in this fashion under inept leadership is just such a waste.

Where the P51's were mostly superior was in firepower and the sheer numbers of them, in the Pacific theatre and the ETO.

Great job done by Japanese torpedo bombers in Nov 1941 in South China Sea. Prince of Wales had earlier managed to escape by launching smoke screen bombs ,in the Battle of Denmark Straits in May 1941 . The honour of sending HMS Prince of wales to the locker of Old Davy Jones was left for the Japanese.

Insane to think that the P51 was over 100mph faster than the zero! 500mph isn’t accurate as it was more like 420-440mph but still much faster than the zero. A talented and experienced Japanese pilot could certainly still take down a P51 and plenty did. They definitely couldn’t be underestimated

The A6m5 was clearly out classed by the P-51 B THROUGH K but the Zero was still more manovuralble and with a good pilot could bring down even the Mustang!

As soon as you get a hit all of the range finders are flaky at best As soon as you get 2 degrees of list range finders and fire control is gone

Churchill did not send the ships Prince of Wales and Repulse to Indonesia to sink transports. At the time they were sent, England was not at war with Japan, they were sent to dissuade Japan from attacking British assets in the Far East. It was anticipated that they, along with American battleships in Hawaii, would be an overwhelming force Japan would not want to do battle against and therefore would not go to war against the British.
