Well, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to the media that interest them. Maybe the economic conversations and schemes didn't click with you, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying the show just to see Lawrence and Holo's relationship unfold; after all, this is first and foremost a slow-burn romance. Furthermore, SnW is a show that draws heavily from philosophical, contemplative, and existential themes, but if that's also not your thing, it can become somewhat tiring, especially when you're not interested or are trying to avoid diving deeply into the discussions it poses. Yeah, I totally agree. Volume 4 has that happy feel good ending with fresh baked cookies for all. The big character moments came in the second to last episode though. The finale was just wrapping everything up and tying the bow around the Tereo arc. A good point to stop if you're telling a little girl a bedtime story. Volume 5 (where the old anime ended) does have a much more dramatic ending over all, plus the big character moments in that volume also come right at the end. So if you want to end with a bang and also a big moment for our two protagonists, and you've run out of money and are worried you'll never get another season, it's a better place to end. Next season will be different though if you decide to pick it up. The next arc spans 4 volumes of the light novel series so it will be a much longer story compared to 4 mostly unrelated stories like season 2 was Thank you for sticking with season 1 though. It was great to hear your thoughts on the show.

the fifth arc is the last 6 episodes of the 2008 series (They skip vol 4 of the Light novel in the original series) if you want to get a little ahead. Every 6 episode is a Vol of the Light Novel with episode 13 being from Vol 7.

What I find so fascinating about Regulus is he seems to hate greedy people despite being the fcking arcbishop of GREED lol. Regulus introduced himself to Subaru and got triggered when Subaru disrespected him by not introducing himself back. If Regulus gives something (even something as minor as his name), he expects something in return. He takes offense if you TAKE without GIVING in return.. Pretty ironic and hypocritcal lol considering he is also TAKING Emilia without even knowing her. He just took her as his own property without respecting her rights. I mean ofc I wasn't expecting him to be some upstanding guy.. its just hilarious

The question that Holo said was not for her is assumed to be Elsa wanting to ask the question Father Franz was seeking an answer to with his research. 'If you're real, does that mean that the God of the Church is real?'. Holo basically told her she needs to find that answer for herself. That resolved Elsa's crisis of faith and steeled her resolve to face what may come regardless of the overwhelming odds against her. Then Lawrence was able to impart the lesson he recently learned himself in Kumerson when he thought Holo might actually leave him after reading Diana's letter. You have to weigh your gains vs your losses and decide if love is something that is to precious to lose. Evan got the hint and went after Elsa. But.... now Holo is having a crisis of her own after seeing Elsa go back and face the potential destruction of her home, and maybe even her own demise. Holo left her home behind and it was destroyed while she was lazing about in a wheat field. She's got some wicked survivors guilt. The main thing that happened in this episode was a huge step forward for Holo. She's finally starting to come to terms with what happened to Yoitsu and that she is not responsible for it. Even had she stayed in Yoitsu, she would have fought the Moon Hunting Bear, but her story would have ended there. She's just be a few pages in that old book. Being alive means she still is part of the story. Her pack may still be out there somewhere. She still has a chance to try and find them. She can start to sleep easier with fewer nightmares. But also, since Lawrence wanted to run away and avoid the trouble, no one from the village got the chance to almost kill him. It wouldn't be Spice and Wolf if someone wasn't trying to murder Lawrence. So in this one Holo had to try and squish him, very nearly breaking his ribs in the process. Holo just stepping up and taking on the task of trying to kill Lawrence in this one lol Evan of course has to prove the miracle next week by eating the wheat, and no doubt he got that job as penance for taking a peek at Holo earlier in the episode when she was taking off her clothes right in front of his girlfriend who is also a priest lol Lesson learned now doubt.

This episode illustrated exactly the kind of drama that goes on in the series. There are tropes, but they are used in a more wholesome way. And the characters haven't done anything too dumb or absurd to make the situation worse, at least not more than a normal teen would. I think that's why this show is so heartwarming.

There is something about this series I'd like to reflect upon but can't just yet. I'll do so with the last episode.

Holo is very prideful. But at the same time she's actually shy. She is the one who insists on her title - The Wise Wolf of Yoitsu. But is scared to admit to Lawrence how she feels about him and if they should part ways when they reach Yoitsu. She broke down and completely lost it when she first learned that Yoitsu was likely gone from Diana's letter. We are only maybe a week or a bit longer after that breakdown. This time she didn't lose it when she read the book, though she warned Lawrence before reading it she could not promise she would not get angry and destroy it depending on what was within it. She's keeping her promise to Lawrence to run though, so she is putting on a brave face. We've known since episode 4 that Holo has been having recurring nightmares about Yoitsu. The first time she ever cried in front of Lawrence at the inn in Pazzio in that episode she names her pack mates Paro, Kiris, Inti, Yue, Myuri... while sobbing on his lap. She mentions them again in Episode 13 in her dreams and we catch a glimpse of them from her perspective watching her from the hillside as she recalls leaving her home of Yoitsu. She also mentioned in that episode she didn't want the burden of leadership which is partly why she left. Only to end up striking the deal with her friend in Pasloe which ended up weighing on her like a shackle around her neck. While she prides herself on her strength and wisdom, and of course her beauty (gotta keep that tail brushed and oiled), she never really wanted to be a leader or worshiped as a goddess. She's had these deep feelings of loneliness, regret that she left Yoistu, and fear for her home and her friends that she's been carrying with her for a very long time. Now essentially she's had confirmed her worst nightmares more or less came true (except that her friends are said to have escaped) sometime while she was watching over the harvest for the village of Pasloe that had stopped caring about her a long time ago. Plus the whole story wasn't even worth an entire page in a book of old legends Father Franz had collected. Evan is adorable though, eavesdropping outside the door with a dilapidated old axe ready to break in just in case Elsa needed rescue. He does care very much about her, there's no doubting that. Elsa is lucky to have a guy that cares so much for her. Iima can close the passageway behind them to hide their escape, they left her behind inside the Church. She's awesome as a character. She has an amazing back story. She is like 75% of the towns economy outside of the wheat harvest. She has been donating spare food form her tavern to the Church to keep Elsa alive. If nothing else, it would be a shame for the village to be destroyed just because Iima would have to pick up and start over again from nothing for the second time in her life. Two episodes to go, and next week is the one for big character moments during the daunting escape back in the direction towards Kumerson. Then the final episode of the season to to wrap up this story.

Holo is happy to hear her friends in Yoitsu survived but upset they run like cowards.

Such a beautiful ending to one of the best shows of the season.

Netflix JP released 2 episodes in the first week, while other regions only were able to release one. Hence other sites beside netflix will have Episode 3 out due to Japan being an episode ahead. Hence the confusion with everything and it would have been nice if they just did the same thing with all versions of Netflix internationally honestly.

They want to do both. Characters and "almost" constant action and continuation. At least that's how it seems. EDIT: And I think she was psychically protecting herself while not protecting the "wall" when she was being punched into this wall.

I do have to say that you have one of the most enjoyable reactions to Dan Da Dan. Like I watched at least 20 different reactions to Episode 1 and in terms of my enjoyment from watching reaction - it was easily top 3.

My guy is in for that soap opera level drama hahaha This show is not the sloppiest in that regard, at least not in how the characters behave towards the drama. Just my kind of drama :)

Great reaction and break down of the episode! When Emilia says that her eyes, hair and voice were praised by the person she loves, I suspect she's referring to Fortuna and not Subaru. As in the next line she says that it 'makes her the same as the most amazing women in the world'.

anime skipped the explanation(which is mostly just a fun detail), but Emelia's new fighting style is called "Ice Brand Arts". Subaru came up with the idea during the 1 year time skip cus Emelia wanted to get stronger.

6:38 it was becouse he just reset and didnt have time to think so he rushed there to save the kid in hopes that sirius will be easy target in the web novel he did attack sirius with the whip and thrown her out the window but she survived and done what we seen and subaru then started to think that he needs an ally that can help but in web novel even reinhard was effected so even if subaru tried to stop reinhard he will not be able becouse sirius got both of them in that moment only thing she couldnt do was kill reinhard and author himself narated that reinhard was beaten at that moment becouse he as a hero right now even if indirectly killed 10+ peaple that were inoccent so he failed and gone pretty much into self loathing for the rest of his life just to clarify anime fallows light novel which I didnt read but most of those things are changed there

Death by infinite fear and death by reinhard, those are some shiny ones to add to the list!

After watching so many romance animes it's always satisfying when you get to the end of the season and see your favorite couple together or they end up in a relationship before the last episode and we see them tackle relationship struggles then get more focus on side characters and all that. I think both Days with my stepsister is one of the few series where there is no definitive conclusion and you feel even better about that because the story fleshed things out carefully. Another romance I felt that way about in terms of season 1 was The dangers of my heart. I really liked how personal this anime felt and how much it delved into the main characters thoughts especially Saki and how the characters interacted with each other. Kaho was my favorite side character which felt strange since she was introduced quite late in the story but how she was utilized was impactful. The only thing that felt puzzling was getting alot of build up with Shiori and then the only relevance she had was her connection with Kudo sensei. I agree that while every single episode was necessary story wise the middle with the exam arc was the least interesting and then things picked back up with the beach arc all the way to the end. This was third in my top 3 summer animes regardless and I loved your discussions.

Uma pequeno spoiler da light novel é que eles mesmo depois de falarem como se sentem ainda passa um tempo sem realmente ter algo entre eles. O anime adptou 4 volumes da novel e apenas no final do volume 5 tem seu primeiro beijo...e a novel já tem 12 volumes.

Reason why Emilia can’t remember Regulus because in novel describe him “very normal bland guy with white hair”. (white hair is normal for this world, unlike black) But the illustrators design him kinda flashy 😂

I really like this episode and what its trying to portray in terms of the direction that Saki and Yuuta's relationship should take. I also like the moments between Yuuta and Akiko. I will admit that Kudo sensei did come out of left field but there are some details that on rewatch makes that interaction more interesting and Ive been keeping up with the author's commentary so I'll add stuff from there as well. Kudo sensei does say that Shiori has been talking to her about Saki and Yuuta's situation and in a previous episode Shiori does tell Yuuta that she has a weird professor that took up her time or something like that hence why she left school late. The author also talks about how Kudo sensei started off in sociology and then became Shiori's ethics teacher and has interacted with all sorts of people so if she has been talking to Shiori about Saki it is believable that she'd be able to pick up certain things based on what she's heard. The author also talks about how Shiori and Kudo sensei are supposed to symbolize sort of the angel-devil on shoulder scenario with Kudo sensei being the devil for Saki - being annoying and pushing her thoughts to where it needs to be. I think another cool detail from the episode itself is that the actual lecture she gives for the ethics lecture is on intramarital relationships.

Dandadan = Chaos but make it wholesome. The character development and world building is top tier. The manga is amazing, one of my favourites. Saw the 3 episode premiere in theatres and very happy with the quality, science saru crushing it so far.
