Most definitely! The composer, Hiroki Kikuta, was inspired by the music of Indonesia. If you have time, you should read the comments section as there are several people who speak on the Gamelan and its use in Java culture.

@@DiegoAlonso-c7d Hiroki Kikuta, the music composer, has degrees in Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Cultural Anthropology. I wonder if these disciplines helped shape his music? Anyhow, his work on this game was fantastic.

The OST from this game is mythical. Most likely the best I've ever heard by far. FFVI was so incredible when it came out, people who didn't live it back can't even get close to grasping the revolution that game was

what makes this track stand out from among the others is that its based on javanese court gamelan music from indonesia. theres a similar influence in the soundtrack to the Akira anime movie, and an authentic example of this is in the movie "once upon a time in new york," including the shadow puppet dramas. im not a musician, but there is a use of time in this musical tradition that is very interesting. afaik there is no other musical style in the world that sounds like this, its unique. well worth checking out
