"Just move..." "Can't afford it, well you'll have to settle for what you can afford..." "Some jobs can keep up with the cost of living" If i, a professional with a degree and a license, can't afford my rent being over double what it was 10 years ago, how am i supposed to save enough money to afford F/L/S plus moving costs to a new area? My salary surely hasnt doubled in the past 10 years. Landlords and the companies that have stealthily bought multiple residential properties in the recent past have us all collectively over a barrel. Their mass purchasing has inflated the housing market prices to unattainable levels whether you seek to rent or purchase a home. My rent is double what it was 10 years ago, but that means that in my current location the requirements to rent a different home are now ridiculous. Most property management companies require that you earn at least 3 times the cost of your rent per month in order to qualify to live there. That is laughable, even as a degreed and licensed professional. A two bedroom apartment costs at least 2000$ per month. I certainly dont bring home 6000$ per month nor do i have the ability to save 6000$ to move from my current home when the owner decides to raise my rent again this year. To those who want to argue "just work harder, you can do it!" I say this: you are misinformed and unrealistic. I work 50+ hour weeks in a salaried positioned and i have a 2nd job where i work 12-16 hours per pay period. My work ethic is not the problem. The cost if housing being at least double what it was 10 years ago IS. [please note: i am not special in my situation, i am not alone in this predicament, i am not here for sympathy. i commented to provide specific hard figures to help combat misinformation and support our Veronica]

@trevortiernan8510Күн бұрын
Ignoring some things 1. Home ownership can largely negate this (albeit downpayment, etc factors in) 2. Some jobs can keep up with the cost of living 3. Corporations also build apartments and additional housing 4. (Mostly for other commenters) The government and homeowner pressure can be a negative as they influence where housing is allowed. 5. Heavy migration to certain areas (NY, boise id, Texas, etc) can spike housing prices. Tldr; supply and demand doesn’t go away simply because the government passes laws.
@oneangrymelon9 сағат бұрын
1. Home prices have soared while wages remain stagnant. You will not get approved. 2. *Some* carrying a lot of weight here. Let me just change careers with a year's prep and hope that industry doesn't die. 3. Building of housing is not correlated with lowered housing costs. Research it. 4. Govt pressure could limit or ban landlordism, which would be fantastic actually. 5. That's called price gouging. You shouldn't be rolling over like a beat dog.

I kind of agree with the purple character on this one. If your living conditions are untenable, then move. We all have a choice to either continue to do what we are doing or change. In addition, the grey character's argument is a bit flawed. She complains about her personal situation and then brings in 'everyone else'. If it is one thing that I have learned about people, they typically do what is best for themselves and do not really care about anyone else.

It is everyones problem. And the solution shouldn't be to give up and move or even move into the homes/apartments that these companies own and inflated the prices of. Government regulations on companies owning residential properties could help. Laws protecting against price inflation using these apps that allow landlords to essentially raise the market price without any justification other than greed. The fact is there isnt a supply and demand issue other than the one being caused by these damn hedge funds buying up real-estate in bulk, being able to outbid any family trying to buy a home.

These people don't realize that THEY ARE THE PROBLEM! 🤨 Corporations are not sacred. They usually are night right either. The wrong people run them and people like this give dumb answers to serious issues that they enable. This lady is too dumb, naive, and aloof to realize she is the forward facing simpleton to a massive problem many are dealing with in this world. It's not just a Florida, US, or Western World problem. The silver lining here is pretty soon she too will be priced out of being able to live a decent life. When she wants to retire, she will find out all she has done for her savings will not have been enough. Her former employer will not care what happens to her as they took her for everything she was worth (her time, her effort, her misplaced loyalty). At that point Veronica will be in a much better place. Silver linings!🤔

This one has a little bit of grey area in it. Certainly if you're being tapped off hours to provide translation services, to expect that without additional compensation is incredibly inappropriate. However, if you are currently working and someone just wants to transfer a customer to you because you speak their language, I'm not so sure demanding extra compensation for it would be appropriate either. I don't know. That's a grey area to me. I think it would depend on the circumstances. For example: If I'm working in call center answering customer calls all day, and my manager said, "Hey, George got a German customer that doesn't speak English very well. Would you be willing to take the call?" Yeah, I'd take that call and wouldn't demand extra compensation for it. Conversely, if I'm working for that same company but as one of the companies IT staff or something, and it was expected that I would just take customer service calls from anyone who speaks German, then yeah, I'd have a problem with that.
