Spent several day trips from Harper's Ferry at this battlefield. My dad was an aspiring LtCol in the US Army, getting ready for War College. We spent our "vacations" at battlefields & working on his mothers farm house, down in the country. I have always had an attraction to U S history and spent my younger yrs in the military bc of this. THANK YOU!!

Interesting that you only show the poor Confederate dead...this was a policy then ...not to show the Union dead. I feel so sad when I see the dead in this terrible war...the families with losses on both sides!

Thank you, KZbin for not blurring out these images like you did with the documentaries of the liberation of NAZI concentration camps. This is real history and needs to be seen. Not sanitized.

History is a must!!! crude and hard to process !!! but necessary!!! for all the gangs with in the USA, this is why the citizens of the USA only have one constitution, one flag, one army, one country, one government. I hope my son gets to learn and understand as much of his countries history so he doesn't make the same mistakes as his fellow citizens from the past. 🙏🙏🙏

I read Shelby Footes incredible "Civil War" novel and he stated that the reason that most civil war deceased soldiers on the battle field show their clothing ripped open (shirts ripped open and pants frequently open and pulled slightly down) was because the soldiers did this themselves. They understood the damage the mini balls used in rifles were very distructive to the human body. The soldier frequently wanted to see their wounds after being shot to see if they would survive the wound. So when you view these historical photographs notice the deceased soldiers clothing.

It's quite fascinating how delusional you people are at the end, saying it was to eradicate slavery, as if Lincoln wasn't quoted saying that if he could save the union with or without ending slavery that he would. It was only made about slavery after the proclamation. And no, I reside north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Can you imagine if photographers still had to follow armies with horse drawn photography "studios" or had to bring a huge wooden contraption around trying to catch an "action" shot? All you really could do was document the aftermath, and we're very lucky someone did. I guess it really does "go to show" there's no glory in war. Indeed it is hell.

This was soo revolutionary at the time. Prior to these photos being published people had heard the chilling accounts of the battles but had never really able to see first hand the true horrors of war. Brady brought those horrors right to the American public. Nowadays we are soo used to seeing graphic images and video coming from war zones like Ukraine and Middle East(thought it doesn't make it any easier to see). But during the Civil War this took war coverage to a whole new level.
