Nice. I wonder, if one day, most of people will realize this kind of music is much more emotional than a song with a very well known rythm and lyrics... If one day, this kind of music will be mainstream... Are we in advance ? Or are we into a music genre that will never be mainstream ?
@maknouchiАй бұрын
Interesting topic. Many of my channel's listeners are in their 30s or 40s, just like me. I myself used to like pop music with lyrics and techno and house music with clear rhythms when I was younger, but lately I have been gravitating towards these "ambient" oriented tracks with vague rhythms and melodies. In my opinion, it takes a certain period of intentional listening to music for people to come to like this kind of music (not that everyone will like it, of course). However, not all people listen to music "intentionally," so I suspect that the number of people who like this kind of music has not increased much. That makes it sound like it's unlikely to become mainstream in the future. I too would like to hear this kind of music in more places, though.

Wow, this is wonderful, I’d love to try it. What’s the octatrack setup like?
@maknouchi3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I have the following setup: T1 pickup, T2 flex, T3 flex, T4 flex, T6 through. All external piano sounds were routed through T6, with lofi effects added. Recorded on-the-fly to recording buffers 1-4 and looped. transitions between T1-4 and T6 were done using the scene function. I hope this helps.

Super awesome! Could you achieve something similar without the midi looper? I just got an octatrack last year and I've been watching and studying the way people use the device, and it's so fascinating to see all the many ways you can use the octatrack. Thanks for all your uploads, and for inspiring me to dive deeper into electronic music!
@maknouchi5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Indeed, you can get interesting results without using Midilooper. For example, you could send MIDI directly from the CP to the Octatrack, and the OT could manipulate the MIDI notes with its own arpeggiator, LFO, and of course parameter locks, and send the MIDI notes back to the CP. This is not the same, but there is plenty of room for experimentation. Would this be your answer?
@isaiahchacon28785 ай бұрын
Super cool! How did you sequence the loop and have it going through flex tracks?
@maknouchi5 ай бұрын
Thanks! I use Midilooper to manipulate the MIDI notes from the CP, Midilooper can change the tempo, octave, velocity, etc. of the recorded MIDI data. Also, all audio from the CP is recorded to the Octatrack recorder and processed by the flex machine.

@maknouchi5 ай бұрын
Thanks! I am using Midilooper to manipulate MIDI notes from the CP, Midilooper can change the tempo, octave, velocity, etc. of the recorded MIDI data. All audio from the CP is also recorded to the Octatrack recorder and processed with the built-in effects. The crossfader is used to mix the raw audio from the CP with the processed audio from the Octatrack. The reverb pedal adds ambience to the main outs.

Nice tutorial! I wondered why you used a pickup machine for T1 but I guess that was just to have the audio play straight away, without needing to add playback a trig?
@maknouchi5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comments! I used a pickup machine on the T1 because I want to be free from the grid and start this chain of manupilations at the exact moment I want. The pickup machine allows me to start recording intuitively. Lately I've been wanting to free myself from the steps and the grid. The pickup looper is a good way to experiment with the Octatrack without using a step sequencer.
