I’ve had both knees replaced 3 years apart. Recovery from the first surgery was straight forward but the second surgery was more difficult to recover from. I could bend my knee through 94 degrees after surgery but couldn’t improve over the next 5 weeks. My lower leg was swollen and I iced it each day after exercise. I sought help from a physio and was loaned a bicycle crank on a stand to position away from a chair to adjust the amount of knee bend during pedalling. I was also given exercises to complete while standing in 1.2 metres of water (basically kicking water). These exercises were the key to recovery from the second surgery.

Day 6 post Op ater Left TKR. (ACL surgery in 2000). Ive been watching Alot of knee recovery videos and my PT folks had me do these. I remember them from ACL rehab. The thigh pain I am experiencing is exponentially worse thatn the pain in the knee itself. My entire thigh all the way around is SOOOO tight, sore and bruised from the tourniquet, (CLAMP!). I am reminded as I watch your video that I should be doing these 3 times a day. Thinking this will help the tightness/soreness as Ive only done these knee bends on the 2 PT days so far. Thanks for this.

I am young , had knee surgery ( knee cap and tendon) , it’s been a hard time bending it. I’m imagining the elderly with full knee replacement. Wow you are brave guys .

Really excellent- easy to understand and wonderful theatrics. My TKR is in about 6 weeks so forewarned is forearmed. I'm in England so great to know that pain (and progress) is the same across the Pond.

In Oregon all healthcare workers are are asked, as part of their CE, to watch a video on pain management which discusses how we might lessen a patient’s likelihood of becoming opioid-dependent by changing the conversation about pain. I really liked the way that your mime did just that 🙂

I had a tkr done just a little over a month ago here in Greece. I was giving Tylenol in the hospital and told to continue taking it for pain management at home! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that my post operative pain wasn't too bad.

We've reached a point in American society where you have to work twice as hard to make a honest living. You can't afford to take a wonderful vacation or just get away anymore. What happened to a time when you can afford to take a vacation, pay all your bills, and have food on the table all under one great income?

TKR 3 months ago and I am fighting the bent knee syndrome because (don’t make my mistake) I was sitting on couch with leg extended on ottoman. It looked straight and level but after 2 months of PT I was at 20 degrees. Then realized that my butt was depressed into cushions causing a bent knee although it looked straight. Now after a few weeks of extra stretching and correct sitting position on couch I am down to 8 degrees. Maybe another 2 weeks to go and then it will be straightened. This is good advice from this doctor. It’s not near as easy as he is describing but stick with the extra pain and it will help healing. Peace and good luck all
