Overflowing romanticism, great Concerto

Glad to have discovered this sublime concerto of Bortkiewicz as performed by Doniga, et al. Though I lament the lack of recordings for this gem. Hope Bortkiewicz would enter the ‘mainstream’ someday.

Sadly, less than a year after this was played at Queen Mary's funeral, it was played at Purcell's.

On Nov. 22, 1963, I was sitting in my high school a cappella choir class when the announcement came over the intercom that the President had been killed. We'd been practicing this for our Christmas concert. We weren't very good yet, but he had us start and sing it all the way through. Still bring tears to my eyes.

Clearly influenced not only by the great Viennese composers of Symphonies (Mozart, Haydn, Pleyel, Vahnall and perhaps Beethoven whose works began to circulate in Europe at the time of the creation of the 1° symphony of Mehul) but almost by Cherubini who was very well known in France. The first movement reminds the ouverture of Medea

Andrew Wan's recording sounds same level of music but clearer quality recording, no? edit: Oh no, nevermind. They messed up the climax in the second movement.
