2003, Uncut magazine always had a free compilation CD of the best new music, which seldom disappointed. On the strength of this, I bought ‘Hard Drive’ on CD and it became the soundtrack to my Summer. It was a briefly joyous and lengthy painful time. I remember getting together with this biker chick who had purportedly lusted after me for years on the British biker rally scene, but I was guarded as something felt out of place. Coincidentally, my slightly older on/off lover developed a chronic illness and she needed care. I did the decent thing but, both broke my heart as a result. My memories abound of singing, ‘All My Life’ set to repeat, close to tears as I left my biker lover to care for my long time lover, letting each know what was going down. I thought I had everthing, but lost even more than this. What did Uncut Magazine entitle that superb free CD compilation? Hard Drive.

She'd shake it up, was hard to make out Now it's plain to see I couldn't cook to save myself Found my life a recipe I never looked at her this way before But now she's all I see Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen to me It's so mesmerizing Can't describe it All that inside, hey No one's heard her last name, I ain't asked So, who am I to blame? An earthquakes started forming underneath my feet today Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen to me Oh, this world is topsy-turvy And it is mine to eat She's the pebble in my mouth and underneath my feet She's the puzzle piece behind the couch, made the sky complete Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen Alison's starting to happen Alison's getting her tit pierced Alison's growing a mohawk Alison's starting to happen to me
