Mesmo não sendo ateu, acompanhei durante bastante tempo os canais da tropa lanterna verde. Não tem como não bater um sentimento de nostalgia, não só pelos vídeos, como da época como um todo. Ainda sigo o Clarion, apesar de que ultimamente ele parou de fazer postagens. Lembro que não tem muito tempo que ele fez alguns comentários a respeito da tropa. De que muita gente que ele considerava "amigo" antigamente, hoje se tornaram seus principais canceladores. Ele não entrou em detalhes, mas não duvido nada que tenha sido por conta de política. Enfim, ficam as lembranças de uma época em que o KZbin ainda era mato.

There is a aspect of the scientific test that was not investigated prior to dowsing and doesn't make the test completely accurate. The ground was not checked for any mineral or metal or water pockets that may have been present during the test. Does that ruin the test no not imo but I would do this 1st with metal detectors and geo readers first. I think those dowsers maybe a couple are cons but most them had coned themselves into truly believed in it. They could be harmful but less so than spiritual fakesters who conjure god or loved one's, whatever it is that is highly personal and that is truly on another level of fraud.

It's interesting that the participants were content to have a clergyman act as their impartial judge. Why are religious people seen to be any more trustworthy, moral, incorruptible, honest, responsible, decent, etc, than secular judges? That's really quite disturbing, but it's common throughout the world: the 'holy' are deemed to be 'better' than ordinary people. They are never, ever questioned. But have you SEEN what they've got up to in the past? Have you SEEN what goes on on American 'evangelical' TV?😲 And yet, somehow, belief in a god makes you a superior class of being. Never mind the facts, feel the piety. That's successful conditioning for you. Childhood indoctrination works, and here you see the result. The 'trust' is so deeply rooted that nobody even thinks to question it. I am NOT saying that this man is bad or evil or corrupt because of what he is and represents; he's probably a thoroughly decent guy. I'm saying that it's extraordinary that nobody even raised an eyebrow when a religious leader was put forward as a judge. His background of religious faith somehow makes him untouchable. Why? I won't go into the reasons why the religious faithful aren't necessarily as trustworthy and incorruptibly innocent as believers think because my Comment would be deleted for obscenity. There's material here for a whole new programme on scepticism. From my point of view, religious leaders [of all faiths and denominations] are no more trustworthy than any other believer in paranormal phenomena. Religious faith and acceptance of the supernatural go hand in hand. Maybe that's why the dowsers didn't question the choice of judge. They believe in magic. Confidence tricksters: it takes one to know one, and the Church has had thousands of years to polish its veneer of respectable innocence.

I think the 'paranormals' - those charlatans who eagerly perform their feats in the knowledge that some interested sceptic will give them a large sum of money when they provide convincing evidence that their extraordinary claims are justified - should back up their cow-poo beliefs with an equal amount of cash. At present, they risk losing nothing for promoting their nonsense. In fact, they profit from innocent people by obtaining their money by fraud, just like those repellent American TV evangelists, faith healers and holy preachers waving Bibles and selling prayer-remedies, spiritual credits and indulgences to the credulous on prime-time TV. Less prominent paranormals - dowsers, pet psychics, exorcists, people claiming to have magnetic bodies - don't even risk losing their credibility, because most rational observers think they're mentally ill and so are reluctant to mock or humiliate them any further each time their professed powers fail to manifest. So, if they don't convince the sceptics that their mumbo-jumbo is anything other than self-delusion (or is proven to be deliberate trickery), they should agree to make a generous donation to (say) a local children's hospice. Let's go a step further. People of faith (🙄) should pay a forfeit every time their prayers to their God(s) or spirits aren't answered. Don't just sweep the failure under the carpet and try again. And I don't mean vague, self-fulfilling prayers, like "Help me in my 14th attempt to pass my driving test", or "Grant me greater patience and understanding with my partner's foibles", either. I mean prayers that don't depend on coincidence, ordinary persistence, or random chance. "Re-grow this diabetic patient's amputated feet", for example. Laboratory-testable prayers. The crackpots and snake-oil salesmen could then either pay up, shut up, demolish a chosen place of worship, or abandon their absurd beliefs altogether and give the rest of us some peace. But it'll never happen, will it. Faith in the supernatural thrives on ignorance, delusion and lies, just like a belief in wild conspiracy theories and the paranormal. Especially if there's money involved. In fact, the less evidence that there is of something's existence - fairies, immortal souls, gods, aliens, demons, angels, magic flying prophets, zombie resurrection, dowsing, psychokinesis, a competent government, a free lunch - the stronger the delusion becomes. As long as that's true, there's little hope for the sanity of the human race. Sigh.
