I do miss the green dragon’s longer more crocodilian/Spinosaurid styled snout which gave it an intelligent leer. The camouflage idea, while endearing seems odd- surely the scales should resemble leaves instead of wings because what tree had two massive wings? The blue one is the biggest offender as it’s supposed to be a burrowing dragon and the older one was already unique with an odd head, broad nasal horn, and noticeably burlier build than even the red dragon. The white dragon I love mostly although I miss the older one’s colors.

I feel a lot of people miss the subtle power of a solid "no, but..." as a substitute for "yes, and..." in improv, especially in improv games like D&D. Instead of outright denying what they other improvisor was saying, it pivots into something related that might be more manageable. Also, as far as looking stuff up at the table goes, with digital tools, an internet connection, and some practice one can pretty easily find the answer to just about any rules question within around 15 seconds so it doesn't slow the game down at all. Personally, I'm a big proponent of the idea of rule zero only being applied with the acknowledgement of what the RAW actually *is* first, like "by RAW that wouldn't work, but the idea is sick as hell so I'm gonna allow it" (to paraphrase Brennan) or "This is what the book says happens, but that's lame so we're doing this instead". I find a lot of the time people come up with houserules at the table due to being ignorant of the relevant RAW and being too lazy to look it up, and back when looking it up meant flipping through a dozen different books and a couple hundred splat books to find the relevant section, making something up as a stopgap made sense since looking up the rule would be impractical and expecting somebody to know 100% of the rules off the top of their head is unreasonable, but these days with modern technology the rules are readily accessible quickly and easily (google the words "5e tools" and you'll see what I mean). I've seen rule zero be used as an excuse to not bother learning the rules in the first place, which IMO is a shameful attitude for a DM to take, as the rules are what make it D&D as opposed to a different TTRPG with a different set of rules. Yes, the rules are a tool and when they get in the way of the game they can and should be cast aside or altered as needed, but that line of reasoning is not applicable, if after looking up the relevant rule (or being informed of it by a knowledgeable player at the table) the DM decides to make something up anyway, that's fine because they are making an informed decision for the sake of the game and the enjoyment of their players, making something up because they don't know the relevant rule and can't be bothered to spend a few seconds looking it up when everybody has a computer in their pocket (and many make active use of laptops and tablets at the table anyway) only makes it more likely that whatever kludged together ruling they come up with will be clunky and unbalanced (since coming up with elegant mechanics that fit well into the existing balance tends to come as a result of being knowledgeable about multiple TTRPG rules systems). I've had multiple instances where I'll see somebody talk about a ruling they made on Reddit and it was pretty clear they didn't know the relevant RAW, so somebody informs them of what the RAW is and they get downvoted into oblivion by rule zero zealots thus preventing the OP from learning what the RAW is for future consideration. Caring what the RAW actually *is* should be the default with rule zero being applied as an exception for rule of cool, rule of funny, or because the RAW for that happens to be dumb. The rules are a tool and so many people just refuse to use them as one.

Seems to continue long-running efforts to further differentiate dragon types in face and silhouette. Contrast the 1e, 2e, 3e designs, especially blue and black. The big reversal is that 3e’s gold design was actually more similar to the other dragons’!

Personally, I have some very mixed feelings on the redesigns. I personally prefer the more "classic" look of D&D dragons. One might claim they are a little generic but they also captured the majesty and powers of those creatures. They also tended to convey intelligence while many of the designs among the evil ones are more animalistic. Overall, I think the redesigns of the evil dragons are fine; the red dragon is magnificent. The black one needs to be more black; looks too greenish. Green looks great; different shade of green that convey distinction among the body while maintaining its color. Blue is interesting but seems a bit too overdesigned. Still, the lightning along its spine is a nice touch. Overall, distinct wing shapes makes you think "why didn't they do that BEFORE?" Can't stand the white one; too bird like and animalistic even though they are usually the least intelligent of the dragons. Nice color scheme though. The good dragons look terrible; gold looks famished and leans too into an Asian design. The tail is simply too long and makes it look shrimpy in comparison. Can't stand the sliver dragon color scheme; too much brass make it look mottled. The classic all-silver can't be beat. As for the brass, it also looks over-designed BUT it is a distinct look that will never be mistaken for a gold dragon. Still, unless you are running a dragon-intensive campaign or world, do we really need brass or copper dragons when you have gold and silver? Good dragons, IMHO, should be fairly rare. More evil dragons increase tension and enemies to fight. A gold or silver dragon can be a powerful ally and mentor but should be used sparingly to keep them unique and fresh.

look until they give dragons their spellcasting back pathfinder 2e has the most accurate d&d dragons regardless of appearance. DRAGONS ARE SWOLL SPELLCASTER, NOT MELEE BEATSTICKS. 5e destroyed them nuetered them defaced them debased them and now an entire generation has no idea the true terror of a dragon. All fun an games till the red dragon turned invisible or created mirror images or hasted its damn self (but of course, 5e concentration changes also suck for Dragons if you do make them able to cast, and the innate spellcasting rules are horribly lacking compared to what dragons used to get)

I 100% agree with changing a character build and/or backstory. If they feel like something isn't right or they feel like they've wasted a character level choice, LET THEM CHANGE IT. Especially if they are a newer player or they wanted to try something new or experiment but it didn't work the way they wanted or intended it to. They won't have bad feels because they made a bad choice a while ago.

Love your honesty in your videos. Specially in this one! Feel like we have similar views in many ways. ---> Just had a session one of my first full campaign and I am jumping strait to full homebrew world. Bit nervous but we took almost two months for character creation and I encouraged them to world build their home cities and places of interest as well as NPCs connected to them. One think that helps me to keep up and would recommend is that as I know I am not good at taking notes during game as a DM I asked my players if i can record our sessions (just plop down my phone with in build recorder - not a good quality but enough to give me the info I forgot).

I do think some of the designs are pretty cool, like the silver and bronze ones do look pretty cool, although there are some that are a bit more questionable in my opinion, but i wouldn't call them bad, just different interpretations. They just not not my personal favorite The gold dragon is closer to chinese dragons, like in earlier editions, with the smaller wings, but i feel like the wings are too small. the argument of "They use magic to fly" is fair, but i my opnion it also reduces imposing figure and makes feel less powerful and wings are what makes them feel like dragons. Also while i don't mind slightly more sleek designs, but the long tail also makes it feels more like i'm looking at cloth, rather than a tail in the flying picture. it's not that it nessary bad, but just doesn't feel like powerful dragon. Also some chromatics are a bit weird. like the blue dragon colors also feels off, i did like to more vibrant colors some of the older designs had and they made them feel more distinct, this feels more like a mix between a blue and a black dragon. the green is better and a decent design, but can in my opinion have a little bit more green and vibriant. i feel they should have the chromatic colors more as an base and use other colors to compliment them more. Still, if these are the designs, i'm interrested in what they will do with the rest of the monsters. and these are just my personal opinions and rambles.

I've stopped running official adventures completely. Nowadays what I do is strip the adventures for parts, and work in the plot hooks and monsters into my own campaign. And I've wanted Vecna in a physical book for a while now (glad to see he's mostly unchanged from the Vecna Dossier), plus I like the universe-hopping element, so I can use some of these locales if I do a game set in those worlds. I think official adventures are pretty railroady, I genuinely think if you go in expecting to run an adventure EXACTLY as-is, you're GONNA have a bad time. They rely so much on contrivances that do not respect player agency at all.

I'm not a fan. EDIT: I realize why they're so offensive: they look stolen from a post FFX final fantasy game. They don't look distinctive from each other any more than the old dragons. I don't care for the chonky look or the cankles. The tailsalso all look super long and super thick, and it's just not the aesthetic I like. I can probably be ok with the red, the gold has always looked weird and like a remorraz though unfortunately this one just makes that comparison more so. THe white dragon used to be more lithe as well. Honestly the best redesign is the blue. and the green, my fave, the did the dirtiest. I loved the huge spiny sail down the back and the fact that it looked more menacing.
