Hi Martyn, just come across your video, what an impressive piece of work. I’m looking to put a V8 on W123 1983 240D, which V8/model would you recommend. Your help is greatly appreciated. Cheers Adi
@martynmarroccoclassiccarre65867 ай бұрын
Hi Adi. You can fit a V8 into your 240D but it will be a little harder than fitting it into a petrol car. There will be extra wiring to sort out and, presumably, your car is a manual? I recommend using the V8 with an auto box, so you will need to fit a different pedal box etc. You will need the petrol tank from a 230E or 280E injected car. Other than that it's a similar process. I have the original set of fabricated prototype engine mounts here if you need to buy them. Actually, I have a low mileage 5-litre engine and auto box too.

Great video! I don't suppose you still have the v8 engine mounts?
@martynmarroccoclassiccarre65869 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for watching the video! I have ONE set of engine mounts for the W123 V8 conversion. They are the original welded steel mounts though, not the later cast alloy ones. They work just fine. In anticipation of your next question, yes they are for sale!

My father bought one of these in the 1980`s but only kept it about 6 months,he had terrible problems with it and his mechanic said it was a deathrap,something to do with a common problem where the steering wheel drive can completely become detached from the wheels so you could be heading down the motorway or going into a corner and all of a sudden completely losing control of the steering....Beautiful-looking car though,Harry`s Garage did an amazing "Restomod" video of his one on here.

Rolls Royce's aren't to every ones taste, they take some getting used to. But if you DO take to them they are amazing.
@cyrussataravalla67312 жыл бұрын
Ma786sai Dua indeed a Rolls-Royce is not a car for everyone, yet it means a lot of things to someone. Like a Stradivarius violin, chooses its owner. It can truly be said that every Rolls, will also select up s own owner. I recently acquired a lovely 1982 Spirit. An unforgettable experience. Something you can’t physically quantify. But each time you have the privilege of getting behind it’s yacht-like steering, the ecstasy you sense within, remains an intangible joy unlike that of ANY other marque. Truly. A life-time companion to waft in regal elegance.

Hi martyn i watched the first of the new bangers series this week they reckon you cant make money restoring old motors and i can see why. great work dont come cheap !
@martynmarroccoclassiccarre65862 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy. Most people grossly underestimate the amount of work to restore a classic car to reasonable condition. When restoring to concours condition the hours involved are frightening! We have won many prizes for restorations and I can tell you from experience that costs can mount up beyond belief. I'm pleased you liked the new show, we are in several of them.

I found this channel after surfing YT looking for W123 engine conversion vids. The 560 is a 10-1 engine? I put one into a W111....(!) .The only way we get those here is to track down wrecked ex UK or Hong Kong cars. Our OZ delivered 560's are all US smog Spec engines and not really all that powerful. One of my daily's is a W123 1985 300D with SST turbo and manual trans .It's only 136,000 miles but rusty. Another is one I bought from a scrap yard last month to get it's M110 engine for a customers W114. It's perfectly straight and rust free,having come from outback Queensland. I have no idea what to do with it's remains yet and seems far too good to part out.
@martynmarroccoclassiccarre65862 жыл бұрын
Hi. I've converted several W123s to V8 power, around ten. They make great cars. One magazine road tested a 560 Coupe and labeled it 'the best car Mercedes never made'. There's much more to see on this particular car, all coming in a later video.

how difficult is such a conversion of the engine from m102 to m117?
@martynmarroccoclassiccarre65862 жыл бұрын
Hi. It's more complicated than it first appears. Bespoke engine mounts are needed after which the M117 sits very well in the engine bay. After that it's a multitude of modifications and a bespoke engine wiring loom. The W126 series one diff is used with modified W123 drive shafts. W126 front brakes bolt straight on but 15" or 16" road wheels are needed to clear the calipers. A modified propshaft is needed. Bespoke power steering pipes too. And a hundred other things. AWESOME car though.
