What to do if Pro Tools does not see a keyboard signal? But in the MIDI Inputs settings Pro Tools recognizes the keyboard and all the boxes are on?

I noted the sample rate on this vid as 96Khz. Is that what you normally work at? How does this effect the computer processor and more to the point, size of the file?
@CatoNoise
@CatoNoise 7 күн бұрын
Yeah, so I usually work at 96k. Whenever you double the sample rate (for ex. 44.1k to 88.2k) it will double the file size for all your audio. So that the takes up more space on your computer, and requires faster processing from your computer for everything to go smoothly. But you know, if my computer was having trouble with this sample rate, I would just work in a lower sample rate, because the difference between 96k and something like 48k isn't a huuuge difference, and they both sound good enough tbh. Hope that helps! Lmk

@@CatoNoise how is the file size differences? Are you using a backup file management system; I’m assuming you are on a Mac.
@CatoNoise
@CatoNoise 6 күн бұрын
@stevegeorge7773 so yeah, I'm on a Mac, and I do have a backup system. Whenever I finish up a chunk of time/session for the day, I back up that pt session file to a second external hard drive, and to the cloud. So each session I work on is stored in 3 spots. I can take a look at session file size in a bit and let you know, but it really depends on the session. But, for example, a 96k session is going to be a little more than twice the size of the same session in 44.1k format.

@@wtulin1970 Yeah, that's a fun theory, but I don't think that's what's happening here. After all, if they were to lie, wouldn't they say that all 3 mics are more different than they are, so we would have more reason to buy all their mic models? Why admit that two are almost the same?

in the actual new york compression, you would add an eq to increase the lows (up to 100hz) and highs (from 10khz) with a 3db shelf, and also have the bass on the same channel. this is just parallel comp
@CatoNoise
@CatoNoise 10 күн бұрын
Very cool, thanks for sharing! I haven't heard of having the bass on the same channel being a defining feature, but that sounds like a remnant from the tape era, when people had to bounce tracks together when stopped by a track limit. Do you think it's from that? From my experience, most people nowadays are teaching NY compression as being the same thing, with the added eq as an option, but not a defining feature. I wonder if it's one of those interesting linguistic things whereby a technique or term changes a bit over time?
@Gorgo-22056
@Gorgo-22056 10 күн бұрын
@@CatoNoisei think it was convenient: it sounds good on the bass too, and ensures a coherent processing on the whole rhythm group. if they initially made a virtue out of necessity, i don´t know, but it would make sense to do it that way either way. regarding the semantics I would argue that in this case the defining features are what the actual technique included when it got it´s name, but yes, over time terms lose connection to their origin, so it will probably one day be, or already is, synonym with parallel compression. i am pedantic however and like to think it´s beneficial to our communication to use too different terms to describe the original NY comp as a subset of parallel comp.

I never bothered to see if I could search for plugins by category AND manufacturer. This is how Logic Pro does it by default. Thank you for this tip!! I was going nuts sifting through my plugins by category alone in Pro Tools.

The "two-part bomb blast" used in every movie from the 1950s and 1960s is the worst cliche sound effect I can think of. No imagination. It makes me turn off the TV every time.

REALLY annoying. Thanks for putting this out, but-are you even aware of this?-you talk so FAST, and in such 10-year-old-always-smiley-Valley-girlese (not your fault: every female on the planet is trendily trying to sound like this now) that I just couldn't keep up with all the info you're well-intendedly but way too rapid-firingly throwing out at us. Fortunately I was able to set plavback speed to .75 otherwise this vid would've been useless to me. Again, thanks for this, but in the future please try and be more considerate of your viewers and not just yourself.

Question, if I'm recording a single track and I want to create markers on the track while recording, How do I do that ? Or do I have to copy timeline markers to the track after recording if markers will only attach to the timeline while recording?

Great tips, I work with a lot of 2 tracks because it’s a lot of hip hop vocals on the fly, but I’ve been really yearning for a good track to get the stems and really break the song down further than drops and low/high pass filters. Learned a couple things here especially value nudging the stutters for effect
