That was a really cool video. Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate the wisdom in that Chinese aphorism about aging starting from the bottom. That makes so much sense! Just wondering if you are a follower of Bryan Johnson for longevity ideas?
@PhilZhen-gy8qk5 күн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! I watched some of Bryan's videos and found them fun. Theory-wise, they’re informative; practice-wise, they’re impractical (for me, someone who isn't loaded and has a job and life to balance 😊). Personally, I prefer something achievable by ordinary people in daily life. I do enjoy reading about the latest studies and research on the human body, and I also appreciate ancient theories and practices that have been tried and tested on people for centuries.

We tow a 2024 Casita with a 2024 Odyssey and get a fair amount of questions about this combination. BTW, we Tow at 60-65 MPH. IMHO, as long as you are operating within the Tow Vehicles Specs, i.e. Tongue Weight/GVWR you shouldn't have any problems! I've talked to Andy several times, about Towing recommendation and value his advice. However, in your application, I am sure you exceed the above Specs. I have over 50 years of Towing experience and 60 years as an Automotive Mechanic/Truck Sales Engineer for Commercial Trucks. If I was ever called upon, as an "Expert Witness," to testify about your application, I could not support!

I’m not surprised you had an issue waiting to actually take delivery of your trailer at Can Am. We had them do some work for us and the place is the most unorganized business I’ve ever dealt with. Andy is very knowledgeable, but there’s clearly no one in charge or managing the dah to day operation. I’d never recommend Can Am to anyone. Sorry Andy!

Did you use only the puncture tool? I use BLACK Castor oil on my lashes and i kid u not my lashes are pretty full and long, if i do say so myself. My mom even commented on my lashes. She thought i was wearing mascara but i wasn't.

Yes, we only use the puncture tool. If combined with ginger, it would be even better. I've given up on my Asian lashes😂, but your comment sparked up my hope again.

I think what people mean by “insurance won’t cover it” is, God forbid someone is in an accident while towing, and the investigation reveals that they are significantly over payload and hitch weight, the insurance company may not repair or replace the vehicle or trailer. It might also involve a traffic citation. I’d love to hear Mr. Thomson’s full presentation and how he addresses that issue.

There was a solution to the problem of bugs coming in through the “fuzzy seal“ where the window levers are from all the way back in the 1970s! It was a piece of sliding plastic inside of a channel that attached to the window with adhesive. The plastic slid up and down and kept the bugs from coming in. I think someone needs to reinvent that and sell it again.

I love your set up. If Can Am set it up, you are safe and fine. Nice long wheelbase on the van, and a nice low center of gravity. Plenty of engine to handle the weight. Lots of neigh sayers out there for sure. I do tow with a pick up, as I like the space, and also have other needs for the pickup so it is what I have. A VW Touareg would most certainly tow better than my truck when well set up, except it would not meet my other needs. I would not be worried in the least... you will see more poorly set up F250s upside down with their trailer than you will minivans. Continued safe travels.

I also drove though Hwy 389/Lab Hwy 500 (from Ontario) as well, this year. It was in August. It was a great trip. I didn't seem to have too many issues with the flies. I think I was just lucky to be in 'a window' of good weather. I did notice the skies were a bit hazy from the smoke. The gravel roads were quite smooth, which was nice. Over all, it was a great experience.

@RizzosExperience-zy2qz3 ай бұрын
Why is everybody worried about the transmission and brakes. The AS has its own brakes. The transmission is the same as the Ridgelines transmission with a 5k tow rating. Not sure about that suspension though.
@PhilZhen-gy8qk3 ай бұрын
Good points! As for the suspension, we were informed that it is a wear item and needs to be watched. So far so good for Ödy's stock suspension! We'll keep you posted as we add towing miles.
@ryan524033 ай бұрын
I'm curious, how fast are you comfortable going on interstates in ideal conditions?
@PhilZhen-gy8qk3 ай бұрын
I just got back from towing in NB where the limit is 110km/h (around 70mph). I was traveling at this speed very comfortably and went up to 120-130 (75-80) for the occasional pass. I usually (and prefer) travel at 80-90 (50-55) because it saves gas money! 🤑
@ryan524033 ай бұрын
I've spoken with CanAm about this and when I last spoke with them a few years ago they hadn't done with this generation Odyssey yet. Do you monitor transmission temps? I don't believe it's possible to add a transmission cooler to the newer Odyssey's. Can you do a video or pictures with details of your setup? CanAm sent me pictures of the setup on an older Odyssey, but there are some changes with this generation that look to be challenging to me. Have you interacted with MrUKToad? He tows an airstream with a Sienna.
@ndginpq3 ай бұрын
Ok so time for a remote livestream!
@rd4k043 ай бұрын
This is very simple. It doesn't matter how aerodynamic or whatever the trailer is. They could make it out of unobtanium. It doesn't change the GVWR. Honda engineers state a maximum tow capacity for the Odyssey is 3,500 lbs and a 27 ft airstream is over 6,000 lbs without anything in it. This is irresponsible and dangerous to other motorists. I wouldn't even tow that with my Pilot which has an extra 1,000 lbs of towing capacity over the Odyssey.
@danielbeaulieu5814 ай бұрын
Did you add some kind of ATF cooler on your Odyssey? It seems there's nothing for 2018+ Ody with the plate exchanger on the transmission itself, no hose to connect a cooler.
@oli77baba4 ай бұрын
Salespeople only care about how much they can sell and how much they can earn; they don't understand cars. If you use a Honda Odyssey with a towing capacity of 3500 lbs to tow a trailer with a GVWR of over 7000 lbs, you're not only disregarding your own safety but also the safety of others on the highway. Moreover, when you sell this Odyssey, don't forget to tell the buyer what you've towed with it, so they can save up some money for a transmission overhaul.

Great description of that first section of the "dirt" road. Yes, that section was just fine. The section section, starting at the first iron mine you encounter to the Labrador border was worse. And that was an approxiamately 60 km section. However, we made it to Labrador City. Nice to have "spotted" you at your camp. The rest of the Labrador Highway is extremely "smooth" compared to these two dirt sections. I presently made it to St John's.

I’m still confused on the capability of the Honda. I love the fact that they are doing but I need to know what makes it possible. I’m only seeing a tow capacity of 3500 with a hitch weight if 350. Or am I mistaken.

Do you have a transmission cooler? Since you are putting lots of strain on the transmission and odysseys are known for relatively weak transmissions
