Yesterday I autocrossed for the first time with my GR86 and I put RT660s on it. (Quick background, I've autocrossed a few years in a 4 door Accord and PS4Ss. it also was the first time driving on 200tw tires). The thing I took away from the day was how hard it was to tell when I was at the limit of traction. I've read the GR86 is a little tail happy to being with, but certainly sounds like the tires played into that based on your review. The times I did get right at the limit where the back end would have the slightest of rotation, the outright grip wasn't quite what I was expecting based on how fast I could corner with a 3600lb car wearing PS4Ss. Oh well, still a fun day and one day isn't enough to come to a solid conclusion. Thanks for the review.

I just bought new tires for both my RAV4 Hybrid AWD and my Chevy Bolt EV. I have these ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus on the Bolt, and CrossContact LX25 tires on the Toyota. I have had these tires 6 days. My initial thought impression for these tires are that they are both good, but the ExtremeContact DWS 06Plus tire is clearly much more noisy than the CrossContact LX25 design. I wouldn’t say objectionably noisy, but there is definitely a low but distinct hum at highway speeds on the ExtremeContact that isn’t there with the CrossContact.

I once tried using a split CV boot which was secured together using tiny bolts and nuts. Not surprisingly it did not work for long. I followed a KZbin video to replace the inner front driver side boot (not a split boot) on my bugeye without removing the CV axle. But this split boot design sounds like it has a better chance of working long term. Let us know how it works out!

Nice vid, I’ve been wanting to replace my battery but am unsure if I should go the weight reduction route. How have things been with the new batt. Would having a smaller batter with less CCA affect the alternator? And are you daily driving?
@cmiovino3 ай бұрын
It’s been super reliable. The car sits sometimes 2 weeks at a time and I haven’t had any hard starting at all. I measured the voltage after 2 weeks and it was still 80% charged. Daily driving it would be absolutely fine. This 18lb version is a “bigger” lightweight battery and isn’t as extreme as something under 10lbs. I would recommend this one or the 21lb one for daily driving.

@cmiovino5 ай бұрын
No problems on the spring rates yet. Many STX guys run 7-9k rates for the rear, but RCE can get you upgraded springs if you end up needing them. So far mines been good - minus me setting up the ride height incorrectly. Follow the instructions from RCE. I bought mine used and didn’t have them. Overall they’re pretty good and ride great on the street to events too. I’ve stuck with their recommended damper settings for now. I’d recommend them.
@RustyTuna5 ай бұрын

@cmiovino5 ай бұрын
@@RustyTuna I paid $1k even with $1500 miles on them. Through a buddy - he had them listed for $1400. I had my eye on the RCE Tarmac 2's, but if you price those out, you're looking at $3k+.
@cmiovino5 ай бұрын
@@RustyTuna Balance of the car is pretty much dead neutral with RCE's recommended ride height and damper settings. I also have a 19mm Perrin front swaybar, but it's not much more over stock. If anything, the car's ever so slightly set to understeer at the limit, even getting on power out of corners in the dry. In the rain, it's a bit more oversteer prone, but that's normal. People run the higher spring rates in the rear to give the car more rotation in the rear in the dry.

No, it's the Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires that are the best. Of course, if you live in the snow belt then it's the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. "The best all-season performance tire in 2024 is the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. The Pilot Sport All Season 4 from Michelin is incredibly adept at providing traction in varying weather conditions without sacrificing performance." The Continental DWS 06 is also a great tire, so it's a personal selection issue for me. I have preferred Michelin tires for all of my cars since the 1990s.

Yes that "floaty/wobbly" feeling you get in the DW06 because the outer sidewall is not as stiff! I bought this for my 2016 Ford Mustang GT and you can't have these cars wobbling or wiggling from the back period! The third problem it causes with the DWS06's is that because it has a softer sidewall than the Plus version this also causes your tire to bulge out and f@ck up your offset thus causing your tires to poke out more than performance tires which I forgot to account for after sntaching them on a sale during COVID and just using them now! Thank god I have a second set of summer wheels with my Indy 500 tires which I love and now will have to get those on and remove my 19" wheel setup that has the DWS06's removed so my mobile tire guy can remove the tires so I can sell them, PEOPLE GO STRAIGHT TO THE DWS06 PLUS AND NOT THE DWS06 LIKE I DID!

I live in Wyoming, and do it differently. I FLOOR THE ACCELERATOR AND TURN THE KEY to PUMP OIL THROUGH THE ENGINE before I actually start it. That way it never starts DRY. As to warming up the engine, I believe that's your choice. My owners manual suggests a bit of a warmup, My wife's car (same manufacturer) cautions to avoid driving until the BLUE temperature light goes out.
@cmiovino9 ай бұрын
You can do the “floor it” trick with electronically controlled throttles, but with cable throttles (like in the car in the video), the RPMs would go to red line immediately. It’s good to do the trick when changing the oil to get oil in the new filter too.
