@scotthenry340124 күн бұрын
@@ParsMaker you need to match the wire to the type of metal being welded. If you are going to try aluminium mig welding, gassless, then changing out the liner tube in the torch lead is usually a good idea for a Teflon one, to reduce contamination only use for aluminium. Probably best to buy another torch and lead just for aluminium welding, the residue build up inside the liner from other metals will cause a bad weld, dull, with a pourus surface.

@@ParsMaker no problem, I'm happy to help when I can. I don't get why some people feel the need to keep knowledge secret and make fun of people who are wanting to learn and making mistakes. I'm a trained welder, I don't know everything but I'll let you know what I learned to help you out, the only type of welding I wasn't trained to do was underwater welding, which required a diving course first, it's basically arc but underwater. So I did arc, mig, tig gas, bronzing and brazing. Oh, I didn't learn laser welding as I don't think it was a thing when I was at college
@scotthenry3401Ай бұрын
Keep practicing, you will get the hang of welding soon enough. If you are new to welding then make sure there isnt too much wind, it will blow the gas sheild away before the weld pool solidifies and ruin the weld. Think of it like a needle and thread, stitch the two bits of metal together as if you are sewing, its a very similar action, as a general rule hold the welding torch at around 60 degrees . Listen to the sound of the welder and the torch, when your are making a good weld you will hear it.

Thank you very much for your highly interesting video ... and also if 4 years are passed , it's still very usefull. I own a lathe similar to your one from many and many years, it was 2006, i think. And only some days ago i realized the chuck was out of alignment, for ever 10 millimeters toward chuck in lathing, i lost 0,01 mm, that i do not judge as ok for my new hobby-works as i'm going on nowadays ... ( aereomodellistic 2 stroke engines, pistons, cranck and similar tools ... ) I have got during years a lot of equipments for lathing and mechanics, but i still do not have any "accurate" steel bar for tests. I noticed the error when lathing a piece of 30 millimeters steel bar, and i always got tapers, just a bit, but tapers ... Many lathe users say it depends from not having a good livelling of the lathe, in our little lathes this can only be achieved forcing the legs of the lathe itself, placing them on two heavy square bars, one under the spin stock, and the other under the tail stock, providing them with adjustable screws in heigh. Working without the rectified bar, and only lathing a piece of steel, gives perhaps a better idea of the error. In fact, should the three jaw chuck spinning the bar ( at the beginning ) as in a taper shape, after having lathed it, with a true concentric spin we should get a thinner bar, but NOT TAPERED at all. A tapered result would indicate an error angle of the spin itself, to be reduced as you have done ... Very good job, in any case, my best greetings ... Alessandro.
