This was my introduction to Andrew Lloyd Webber and the Broadway musical Cats as a child. Years later, my mom got me the video version of the musical when I was 8 years old, and then years after that, I saw the Broadway musical in Philadelphia after one of my 13 major surgeries with a full body cast on! I was still in a cast, but I told my parents that I wanted to go see Cats, so they took me! I think the actors signed my cast afterwards. It was also my introduction to the author of the poems which this musical was based on, T. S. Elliot. My parents got me "Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats" after reading one of the poems in elementary school in my English class. I saw the remake that they made in 2019 with Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella. Let's just say that it wasn't exciting as the musical was. I've been a fan of this musical ever since. Grizabella is my favorite cat in the whole show, and "Memory," the song that Loni is singing in the video has become my favorite song of the entire musical! One year for Halloween when I was little, I even dressed up as one of the cats from the show; my mom even bought a makeup kit from the show so that I could look like the actors on stage. Thanks Levar Burton and Reading Rainbow for introducing me to this wonderful musical and Andrew Lloyd Webber! I guess you could say this show turned me into a "Cats" fan! It also help me develop a love of the real animal in the real world. Cats have become my favorite animals too. I used to have an aunt who had five cats and every time I came over to her house for the holidays, they would come over to my wheelchair and look at me and make contact with me every single time. They wanted to make contact with me, I was too afraid to pet them though. LOL!

I was so fortunate to meet LeVar Burton back in 2017 at Florida Supercon. He’s my main role model when it comes to reading. But you don’t have to take my word for it.
