700ml is the "normal" volume for spirit bottles, atleast in Europe, it became EU standard in 1990, and probably on many other markets. To my knowledge it's only in America that the standard volume is 750ml, if you have any other info, please let me know. And the 1 litre bottles is most likely only found in tax free or travel retail.

Imho, and it is a personal opinion....putting ice in single malt whisky kills both smell and taste. But on the other hand....one should drink ones dram as one want's, as long as ones happy :)

In the beginning of my whisky time, about 25 years ago, this was one of my favourite drams. But as time got by, quite a few drams of whiskies, learning about whisky and so on....I stoped buying it for several reasons...imho, this is a heavily overpriced, weak smell and taste, low %abv, chillfiltered, fake coloured whisky (loads of E150). Not worth that kind of money it costs, it could be so much better.

My favorite blend is JWB, a little smokey like Lagavaluin. Defiantly tones of honey. Best neat.

I had a nice laugh when you had mentioned that you wouldn't care if Glenlivet were in 700 ml bottles, but not Springbank. Glenlivet produces so much they should be selling liter sized bottles at half the price of their 750ml. To give a little perspective... Glenlivet produces 21 million liters per year. Springbank produces annually only 3.5% of what Glenlivet makes at only 750K liters per year.

Just discovered your channel. Look forward to watching it grow. Now you had mentioned you were disappointed that the bottle was only 700ml (70 cl). I get it when you compare to other Scotches releases in the states at 750ml. But remember most other scotches don’t have the demand SB has not the tiny production capacity Springbank used to be 750ml in the states but production of SB is so small and so high in demand, that if the bottles were 750ml you probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to obtain it. Demand for Springbank is at all time highs, seemingly doubling every year and there would be 7% less bottles available if they were 750ml. Not to mention costing 7% or 10% more expensive per bottle 700ml is a welcome compromise if you ask me. 😀

I’ve recently had Glen Scotia 12 also from Campbeltown, Uk 700 ml also. It’s a Uk thing 🤷‍♂️

Actually all the bottles in UK and EU are 700ml (70cl). I believe only the American market the bottles are 750ml. So most Scotches released in the USA are 750ml, but smaller distilleries don't have enough distribution in the USA market, so it is not cost effective to have their standard 700ml bottles produced to 750ml for that market.

Thanks, yeah at 175 there are a lot of better choices out there, or even multiple bottles of ~$75. One thing I will say about this scotch though is our palate has changes significantly since we reviewed this and I still find it to be amazing tasting.

I got a bottle 3 weeks or so ago and I am waiting for spring before opening it up. From other reviews I've seen or heard, it sounds like a dram for the summer. We'll see. . .

I bought a bottle of Blue Label and thought it was terrible. The smokiness was too overpowering. If there were waves of spice, honey and vanilla, it never made it past the smoky burnt flavor. Too much money for a blended whiskey. You both should check out the history and review Uncle Nearest 1856. It's a great affordable U.S. Whiskey. If I want a more pricey Scotch, I'll stick with the Glenmorangie 18 or even a Macallan 18. Thanks for the honest review!

Hey! Thanks for the comment. I found it a little smokey but Pete liked it a lot and said there was just enough. Sometimes we can concentrate on a flavor and it ends up being all we can taste. I really want to like peated scotch. Uncle Nearest eh? Never heard of it. Will have to try. Macallan 18?? Whew! Expensive taste there! Hahaha. Thanks for the recommendation!

JW Blue Label is almost $400 in Vancouver. It’s absolutely overpriced and overrated. I love single malt scotch and for that money I can get some amazing single malts. JW is almost too smooth and there’s no complexity. The Green Label is probably the only expression of decent value at $105 for an 18 year whisky! JW is chill filtered and they add colour and I generally look for integrity bottling. The exception is Lagavulin 16 which I adore.

Couldn’t agree more. For the price it’s just not worth it. So many other amazing scotches for far less money. We’re going to review the Lagavulin 16 very soon. We have a bottle sitting there staring at us! Hahaha Thanks for stopping by!

The Castle's Curse definitely is if you can still get it at 99.99. I know the 26 year old was pushing $500 a bottle online so it better be damn good for the price!@@silverpunk2427
