Nice work! Liked the piccolo (was it?) lines to highlight the tension during the action sequences

They were actually built-in runs from the Project Sam patch that I used.

Wow what a fantastic score! A lot of it reminded me of Stravinsky which is such a fantastic approach for this animation. Great work

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I almost didn't enter the competition because I thought it was too hard. The Free Orchestra patch from Project Sam was very helpful for this one.

Very good orchestration!, I really like the combination of the comic style mixed with intrigue at various moments. I hope you do well!

I really liked it! In some scenes we made similar musical choices :) Some years ago I also used Spitfire Libraries, but now I've switched completely to Orchestral Tools, which I find more suited to my personal taste. Great work and good luck!

Hi, mike, I loved your entry! The way you use the project Sam patch, the musical palette as a whole (really sounds like a cartoon soundtrack one), the lyrical parts.

Thank you! that patch was really nice to get an overall feel and helped in laying the ground work.

Great job, Mike! Thanks for taking part and for sharing your entry! Don't forget that it's a requirement from Blender to put some text at the start of the video to say that "It's a re-score by...". You'll find that in the instructions :) Good luck in the competition, Mike, and, if you can, please help us out by sharing the word about our fundraiser! It's for an excellent cause. All the best! Bryan

Ooops! totally missed that. I'll have to sort it out tonight. Hopefully reuploading won't mess up the link that I registered with??
@TheCueTube8 ай бұрын
@@mikemurphy8744 No worries, Mike. We can still base the judging on the link that you submitted, that's not a problem, as long as the link remains active of course :)

Man, this is some AWESOME stuff! With the way this was scored, I could call you Carl Stallings successor! Good luck with the entry! Could I ask what you used for the percussion/muted brass? I'm currently trying to find a library to pull off these aspects but haven't got one quite yet!
@mikemurphy87448 ай бұрын
Most of the muted trumpet and percussion came from the The Free Orchestra sample library from ProjectSam projectsam.com/libraries/the-free-orchestra/ I used a combo preset in that library to sketch out most of the sections to give that 'cartoony' feel. I did use some Timpani from EastWest.

Hi Mike, nicely done as well! Pacing feels a bit independent, but your composition is quite soothing and brings more peace to the scenario. While the mix of the music itself sounds very lively and beautiful, I wonder if it's competing with the voices a bit much? I tried to push my mix more to the outside along with some side-chaining- even frequency based- to ensure it won't fight with the voices. There's still so much to be learned, but it's proper fun and I believe I can hear that you've enjoyed it, too, comfort zone or not, hehe! Good Luck to you, too! 🤞

It is interesting listening to so many interpretations. This one was definitely challenging for me considering it is more of a period piece.

I like your arrangement to this film clip especially your use of instruments, with a period drama I wondered do you just include instruments from that era or throw in a mixture? I couldn’t find a good harpsichord for my score so used a piano, id be interested to know what harpsichord sound you used? All the best to you!
@mikemurphy87442 жыл бұрын
Well... I didn't have a really good harpsichord sample either. lol -- So, I used the one that came with Halionsonic SE in Cubase. I threw a little reverb on it, a chorus effect to make it sound bigger, and EQ'd some brightness. I like using the British Drama Toolkit from Spitfire. It's very easy to play different combinations of woodwinds and strings and has an evolving feel to it. That saved on having to score several instruments separately.

Great work, Mike! Thanks so much for taking part and sharing this :) For anyone who's watching, can I just re-iterate that Score Relief is our initiative to give ALL our composers something great to take part in and develop their creativity, for free, while having the chance to win amazing prizes BUT it's also to shine a light on our charity fundraising campaign to support In Place of War, who help grassroots culture projects get on their feet after war and other difficulties. If you can donate to support this campaign, we would REALLY appreciate it and it will, of course, help us to make more opportunities to win BIG for our composers in the future :) Thanks for letting me share this short message! Good luck in the judging stage!
