I just cut one with a miter saw. It grabbed halfway through, shattered and a piece shot across the room and stuck into the drywall. Be careful if your trying to saw it.

Leviton actually makes faceplates with slimmer sides. Amazon has them.

Thanks, made my own version today ! Others like Blowsome (expensive) en UKpro wetsuite dryer you can not use 'off grid'. This one you can, battery operated.

This guy is super slow and way too talky. Go to 2:38, watch him score the unbreakable nylon wall plate several times, and cut with scissors. My version takes 15 seconds not 5 hours like his

After watching this I ran right out to Home Depot and bought a Nylon switch plate cover. Tried and tried to cut with kitchen scissors - no dice! Plus it was super hard to score - even more so than an old plastic one. Surface was slipperier and hard to dig in. Your nylon cover looks much more flexible than the one I bought from Home Depot. I will try the hack saw method. ... UPDATE: Can't cut this sucker with a hacksaw. It's hard as a rock. The old plastic cover cuts easier. This nylonone I bought is now all scratched up with its super slick surface. So if you're going to try this, check out the material and see if it looks cuttable/bendable. The one I got at Home Depot not good for this method.

Great video, thank you! One suggestion: Use Yellow (straight) tin snips ... it made it even easier for me. I only scored the polyester to get a line, then cut with snips. I literally took about 1-2 minutes per plate/cover. Your suggestion made it extremely easy and I finished with a quick sanding to smooth out some very minor rough edges. For the $0.05-$0.10 difference, it's well worth it.

Yep, like the other comment the box cutter on a 2023 nylon Leviton just scratched the surface. But, using the scratch as a guide for tin snips, it was a breeze and looked very clean.

THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure out how to custom make a cover and have bought so many expensive wood plates not knowing there is metal on the back it's driving me insane. Don't think you're simple how to do this did not piss me off lol.

Nice work. As an electrician, I only buy nylon plates now. It is practically impossible to cut those brittle ass plastic plates perfectly.

Thanks. I never would have turned to shears to cut this. I did use a Dremel to get through the thicker end pieces though for a cleaner cut.

neat trick & I've had situations where this would have been useful. sometimes with older homes its opening a can of worms if you tinker with the wiring or try to move a box. can get expensive

This is a very good product! I am using it on our staircase in our historic home. It is less toxic and smells like oranges very strong. DO however always wear a respirator! And if in a confined or small area only use with windows open and fans as well.

Personally, the hard plastic ones looks better, the nylon/unbreakable ones, being flexible and glossy looks cheap and filmsy even through it's actually the opposite. I suppose for switches, I'll stick to the better looking, breakable ones, and for receptacles, the unbreakable ones
