Anyone who still has the slightest belief that Haile Selassie was in any way 'imperial' or 'divine' should read a book called The Emperor by Ryszard Kapuściński. He was a Polish journalist who went to Ethiopia during the revolution in the mid 70s and he interviewed people throughout Selassie's kingdom, from his closest advisors to servants. Selassie held on to power and vast wealth by sustaining a culture of paranoia, bribery and favouritism within his kingdom while the masses were dropping dead from starvation. If anyone got to clever and spoke out against Selassie they were slung in the dungeons or just disappeared. There was a failed attempt to overthrow Selassie's reign in 1960 when he went to Brazil but eventually the country turned against him when revolutionary forces (parts of the army and students) managed to convince the people (who were by and large illiterate) that Selassie was not divine as they had thought, but a tyrant, and that millions of dollars has been squirrelled away in Switzerland and lavished upon his cronies. When the rebels came for him, he was marched out of the palace and driven away in a green volkswagen (no joke!). And that as they say, was the end of that. It's just an old fashioned story of power, corruption and decline. Kapuściński had no agenda, he was just a journalist who also exposed regimes in Africa and the middle east, and just wanted the truth. His book on Iran's Shah is also excellent, all about another monster. So, in conclusion, any belief system that deifies Haile Selassie is pure fallacy.
