You can fine-tune a GPT model with a few hundred examples. It takes a few minutes and costs below $1. Fine-tuning so many open-source models can be done efficiently and quickly on your laptop. What's so expensive about it? Prompt engineering, on the other hand, takes more time, and it's quite experimental and unstable.
