@@tronicraft it would be nice and to hear your performance. I’ve actually got a Roland E 30 arranger keyboard based on the same sort of sound Chip with extra sounds and other features and it certainly is a keepsake keyboard full. There were other arranger keyboards in that series going back to late 80s early 90s including Roland E 20, E 10, E 5 and others so yes, extremely interesting and as you may know, it is based on the linear arithmetic sound chip sound engine and in my opinion, they are stunning sounds including one of the extras based on the E 30 a slow string sound, a few extra bass sounds and other.

One of the best things about these old classic drum machines is getting combo beats. Very clever.

When I was a kid in the 70's I remember small organs being sold in department stores which had very similar sounding built-in percussion sounds, I wonder if they used they same electronics.

nice to see the synth taking shape! Do you envisage additional 'modules' in addition to the photocell? You could probably re-purpose a volume/wha pedal as a controller? A ribbon controller would be cool too!

My fascination with electronics began decades ago, but I've always been clumsy and mostly unsuccessful implementing anything beyond the most basic circuits. This looks like a wonderful reference both as a primer/refresher on the basics, and as a spark to expanding my noisemaking repertoire beyond piezo pieces. Your demonstration and description of the oscillator circuit, the roles of the different components and the effects of variations therein, were clear, elucidating, and inspiring. Thank you for making yourself known! 😎

Essentially a fancy metronome
@tronicraft
@tronicraft 20 күн бұрын
The integrated circuit chips of the time (or a little later in the decade) used configurations of tiny transistors made into oscillators and simple filtering circuits. However, here we have discreet transistors doing that. It might not be apparent here in this video but the sound is very nice, percussive and real sounding. Amazing for just discreet transistors. But, yes, I think the timing components of the circuit are similar to the way an electronic metronome would be made, with discreet transistors.

Thank you. A drone synth is very easily done with this chip. I'll get a diagram uploaded. But in the meanwhile check this out: www.instructables.com/Schmitt-Trigger-Synthesizer/ This person did the same thing with this IC, close-ups of the breadboard and components. (For some reason they used a voltage regulator, however that isn't necessary, you can just use a battery directly connected to the IC's +V and (-).

The bass range is more pronounced than it sounds here in the video. There are four frequency adjustment controls, a pattern changer control, tempo control, switches for two photo resistor sensors that react to light/dark in a Thermin-like fashion. I’m shocked at how musical and rhythmic this is with the modulation! Absolutely stunning 🤯 curious if it would be possible to clock the lfo/modulation somehow
@tronicraft
@tronicraft Жыл бұрын
Thank you. The software uses direct digital synthesis using a lookup table of note frequencies, so all I did was map out the frequencies of the notes in the major and minor pentatonic scales. The modulation is all being done in software too. (By "software" I mean the firmware programmed into the main chip).

The idea for the TeleStrat pickup came from one of my customers who talked to me about the possibility of creating such a thing, this was completely his idea. After that conversation I went and designed the flanges using VCarve Pro and cut the pieces out on my CNC machine. The TeleStrat pickup would just pop into any position of your Strat or Strat copy guitar, no modifications of the pickguard or body rout. It can also be used with a standard Tele neck pickup cover. The pole piece spacing is that of a Tele neck pickup and the bottom flange is the same dimensions as a Strat pickup's bottom flange. After creating the TeleStrat pickup I thought it might be a good idea to create a hybrid Strat pickup for guitar players who might want a Strat pickup in the bridge position of their Telecaster? (Maybe...)
