What do you think about latest C4D releases, especially 2024.4 and 2024.5, new particle system. Do you still prefer Xp rather then native C4D engine? I understand the difference in general but I want to hear your opinion. Thank you very much❤

when you put a noise and a multiply node the displacement pushes it into a direction, sometimes to the sides but I want it to displace it on all directions
@midlet6 ай бұрын
Think I showed it in the video but the way to think about it is like there’s a bounding box around the volume that clips in certain directions. To fix it add a little box or sphere to the displaced geometry to “expand the bounding box”. It’s in these videos somewhere so you can get a demonstration of what I’m talking about.
@theconstructxyz6 ай бұрын
@@midlet I'm not saying it is clipping, I'm saying the displacement has a direction in which it is affecting the object, pushing everything to the left and downwards in a diagonal when you increase the multiply value, no other nodes used besides the multiple and the noise
@midlet6 ай бұрын
@@theconstructxyz Hmm, I don't know of any way to change the direction of the displacement. I don't think that control is built in. The issue I ran into and found a workaround for was having one "flat" side of displacement. I get what you're saying though you want it to displace along normals evenly I suppose which does seem like the way it SHOULD work, but for some reason doesn't.

Yes, set emission to Polygon Area, and put the vertex map in the “Selection” field

have you found a workaround in rs similar as octane random node? please update here if you find one.. Thnx! what i observe with the method you did in redshift. I think there is limitation. Only the whites in the gradient gets to illuminate and not random colors. Or is it just a matter of changing the color gradients randomly? wow! its easier to render the curves with CurveID normalized. I hope redshift makes a similar node for particles.

Ahh, I actually started in Maya too, it’s pretty different, but in general I think C4D is easier. Some stuff I still go back to Maya for though.

Thank you for the video! Very helpful. I have a question. Do you happen to know a way to eliminate individual particles? Let me explain. Suppose there's a scene with a particle splash using Turbulence, PBD, etc. Most particles travel in groups with others, forming beautiful streaks. However, some particles "escape" and fly alone, like crumbs. I imagine there should be a way to set up a 'question': if a particle is not attached to at least 20 others, kill it. But I haven't found such an option. How would you solve this? Thanks!
@midlet10 ай бұрын
Thanks! So the attribute you’re looking for is called “nearest particle”. You can query this in the question system and it does what it sounds like, check how far the nearest particle is. So you can say logically something like “if there is no other particles within x distance -> kill the particle. One gotcha about this though is that the nearest particle attribute is not a default attribute that the particles carry, sort of like rotation. So you have to go to the Extended Data tab and turn on the nearest particle attribute first. Hope that helps!

Hi there ! great starting point ! i'm also using XP a lot and switched from Arnold to Octane last year, So I've been experimenting a lot. My thoughts after 1 year of using Octane and XP is that Octane is great as it's really fast and everything, but has some limitations when it comes to rendering XP stuffs compared to Arnold for instance (especially with trails) and is a bit fragile, LiveViewer crashes a lot when you start building heavy sims (and I mean a LOT ! x) ) render works fine though. If I may, a useful add to octane when it comes to XP is the custom OSL Hue Shifter Shader from Silverwing (see his "Quick Tip : Random Values" video) it's life saving little OSL script for manipulating Hue and Sats for each particles according to any input gradient/values (because for whatever LUDICROUS reasons, color correction node in octane doesn't have any input pin for those values....) can't wait to see others tuts from your channel ;) (sound is pretty low on this one)
@midlet10 ай бұрын
Yea Arnold and Redshift has a lot more options with built in primaries for rendering curves and I wish Octane had that. I plan on making a video on trail rendering in Octane as well so stay tuned for that and we can compare notes. I’ll check out the silver wing script, he always has super helpful stuff. I agree about Octane being crash happy. Since Octane was my first render engine in C4D that I really dove into I just got used to it and always save my scene before kicking off the live viewer. One thing that was funny when I started using Redshift was that it almost never crashed and it was like a whole different world haha.
