Leeds will win the league when we're sat top and three points clear?? Atrocious comment. 🤮

We've still got a fair bit of midfield cover with Aleksic, and to a degree Aouchiche. Always could switch to 4-4-2 as well. That was a horrible game to watch with constant route one football by Luton, and because of the size of the pitch, there's not much space, so the penalty area was very congested. Great resilience shown by the Lads 👍

Great win. League one all over again. Dreadful stuff, but we rose to the aerial bombardment.

Last 3 games if we picked up 1 or 2 points we couldn’t really complain. The fact we picked up 7 is a testament to the team spirit and the fact we now have players who can score with odd half chances. That tends to be difference between teams who go up and those who don’t

Hi Phil, absolutely our best win of the season no doubt about it. Two cracking goals and to be fair even the Luton goal was a good one. Patto was good and was Mepham and Luke. Let’s not let ourselves down on Saturday.

Luton have just not adapted from 2 seasons ago its just lump it up & intimidate the opposition with the big guys !!!! O.k. it was never a classic !!!but we overcame the pressure & found them out with 2 gr8 goals from Chris & Romaine bring on Oxford 😊😊😊

@davidbudding583620 сағат бұрын
Maybe so but it is their intensity in their press and the long ball which means you are under the cosh for large parts of the game. I don't think Luton had a lot of skill about them and the real class moments came from the two Sunderland goals.

I can only see Sunderland improving and gaining more momentum as the season progresses. As players come back from injury, depth of squad deepens and the January transfer window looms, I feel very confident of an automatic place at present This team is a seriously formidable unit with a very intelligent, forward planning manager. I'm fancying a bet on our chances right now Phil ❤🤍

if you have every Luton player instructed to launch the ball into the opponents box every time they get it, then the majority of the game will be paid in the opponents half. Having said that this is Tony Pulis tactics from years ago, I really did hope it had died out by now but no, Luton still use hoofball

They seemed to revert back to the long ball game when Ross Barclay moved on. I think they were praised last season in the Premiership with their possession based football

Phil you mentioned the January window, there’s stories of KLD telling Sunderland fans at Euston station after the Watford game they going to spend big in January. Have you heard anything to the contrary? One thing stood out last night for me was the distance of Patterson’s kicking. Could we utilise that better and mixing our play up? The yellow cards has me concerned, do we limit the risk by playing either Rigg or Jobe behind Isidore, taking them out of the equation? We know the league has its shithousery teams we can’t drop them so utilise them in a different role/position.
@nameanteater477221 сағат бұрын
I’ve been thinking this, we always look like we play it short, so when we come up against front foot teams they start with a high defensive line and players ready to press our short goal kicks. We then have Patterson lump it over the high defensive line to the striker (especially because you can’t be offside from a goal kick). Either works as a 1 time thing or keeps the opposition guessing and more cautious in the press
@FinleyBell-k9b23 сағат бұрын
Would he not just play Aleksic if they both got booked with Browne in too

Best game of the season for me, too. Total character. Basically, 100 minutes of near constant pressure and Kenilworth does not suit this Sunlun side. But they ground it out. This is what winners do. When did we last see a Sunlun side do this?

Hi Phil - This game showed we have steel and determination as well as very skilful players. RLB clearly sees benefits in using same players regularly to improve team understanding. With a doctorate in sport physiology and biomechanics from Rennes University, I think he'll rotate when necessary.

You always defend Neil - gave the ball away in dangerous positions, missed an early opportunity and defended like an Under 8s for Luton goal. Needs to step up or be dropped!

He was man of the match v Hull, 2 assists in 2 from a 6 role. Been quality since his Watford mistake. Entitled to your opinion but not sure football is the right sport for you.

@@LDHallstar Motm v Hull ?? - and what was his assist - giving the ball to Isador 80 metres out!!! As a midfielder he doesn’t score goals. In a short video that was shot during the match a young Hull fan's reaction to the goal was to comment " Not good enough defensively", four times in a row. Clearly, the coach's attempt to deflect attention away from his totally inept setup at a corner wasn't going to fool this lad. After being pragmatic in the first half, probably a reaction to the Norwich result he then reverted to kamikaze football at the corner.If a coach's setup doesn't allow a player to try and create space on the edge of the opposition box because he hasn't left a player to cover a break then he carries the can.

I think the player in the weong for our goal was the one who passed it at the Ref. He saw him there, even if the Ref moved the maximum he could it would be tricky for his teammate

Mepham is quite clearly a good Premier League player playing in a Division below him. It wouldn't surprise me if Bournemouth are starting him again next Season as they have the option to extend his deal. I don't know why they wouldn't extend it and at least get an alright transfer tbh

Nothing controversial at all about the game ref didn't do anything to assist in the goal lead up . The so called hand ball,was ball to hand as it came over his shoulder and hit his arm . 👍🤔

Thanks very much Phil, that is my fear is Mepham keeps doing so well and we don't go up, we won't be able to compete with a low PL side's offer for him because that's clearly his level.

What made this game controversial apart from that near hand ball?
@gap99924 күн бұрын
There was zero legit complaint about the goal. Their player stood behind the ref, the ref got out of the way and never touched it. Their player had the ball fully under control and could have played it anywhere but chose to take on Neil and lost it. Their manager was a disgrace moaning about it the way he did ! He was covering up for the fact his player lost possession and then they failed to deal with the break The handball could definitely have been given though.

A pragmatic first half Hull made it difficult and policed Mundle very well but Roberts repeatedly had time and space. Earlier in the season he went down the outside and used his right foot more than he had in the previous two seasons. In the first half that was crying out for him to do that at least on occasion, he didn't have the nous to do that. skilled but limited player. He has to grow.. Dan Neil gets an assist from just outside his own box.very neat trick.
@L12Bong4 күн бұрын
Agree with you on Roberts. I was frustrated watching him down the right, predictable in his approach to continually cut in on his left and lose the ball allowing Hull to counter-attack. As we now have a CF in Isidor, maybe it is a better option to find his head with a cross instead of trying to walk the ball into the box. Saying that, the two things which I subsequently thought in defence of Roberts' play was that Hull did sit deep, frustrating Sunderland with Roberts trying and failing to find gaps and secondly, Hume and Rigg could have shown themselves more to Roberts who did have space down the right. Maybe too tough a comment on Robert's and SAFC's play as we did defend well and we won, but remembering teams parking the bus last season, SAFC did sometimes fail to break them down. The irony being that we scored from a counter-attack after sitting back for a time absorbing Hull's attempt to attack. We have to buy Mepham like. SAFC!
@stephenwatson71073 күн бұрын
@@L12Bong You are right Hull did make life difficult and Roberts could have had more help but what space there was was on the outside and he never even thought of trying to exploit it. Hume or Rigg could've gone there but by not taking his space they left him room to work in. Any wide player has to vary their game or it's just too easy to defend against. compared to Clarke he's ineffective when he does cut inside. Clarke cut in on an angle giving him a natural angle to shoot from. He placed it or put a slight bend on it in a controlled manner. Roberts runs parallel to the goal at a high pace and invariably shoots from the center of the goal and has to wrap his foot right around the ball and ends up lashing it. So much talent but seems incapable of learning.

I think it's not worth your time. No point in covering a routine pre-match presser. There's nothing open to interpretation, so nothing to give an opinion on. He's not going to give any formation or player changes. He'll only speak in general terms about game plans and tactics. , There's nothing but the same info as the actual presser all be it in a shorter time frame. Useful to those who haven't seen the presser but not to those who have. Only worth covering if it strays from the routine.
