Interesting to move to North Carolina from New York. Culturally very different places. Failed Democrat Leftest Policies, high taxation, cultural Marxism, high crime does cause even a company to vote with their feet. Just ask Elon Musk who left the failed leftest mono-party State of California for the free "Republic" of Texas.

It's crazy how a company like Tichy has been reproducing a lot of the same models for decades but companies like Athearn, Kato, Walthers, etc went from years of making the same models then went to doing limited production runs which half of are never released again and spiking the cost to an unaffordable level of like $50-90 per car which insane and absolutely ridiculous. That's why I put out of module railroading because it has become cost prohibitive.

I've built a few Tichy kits and they are great for the time period I model (turn of the 19th century). I will continue to support Tichy Train Group as Don has a great company with fair shipping prices. I love building his kits. They're fun and challenging. Cheers from eastern TN

I admit that it was early on, but I bought a Tichy gondola, seemingly what?, 20 years ago and the draft gear box, and thus coupler, was too high ! If it were low I would have been able to use washers on the center pin to lift it..But, alas ... So I wound up never putting the car in a train. Thank god for fast forward..I watched half this video and shut it off..

Why not just shave off the bolsters? That will lower the coupler height.

He needs a History lesson! The housing crash of 2008 happened under George H. Bush. Obama was not in office until 2010 and he did not cause it. Deregulation of the banking industry and subprime mortgages caused it.

Thanks for making this video... it's so interesting to see. I recently received an order from Don Tichy for some architectural details and parts for my engine shed I'm superdetailing. For years, I've been impressed by the quality of the parts in their kits and so buying details parts from them seemed like a natural progression. I remember getting Gould Co. kits maybe 40 years ago or so and being impressed by their quality. Then the name on the kits changed from Gould Co to Tichy Train Group and we were worried about the quality, but the quality didn't go down at all. I think one of the most satisfying kits I have ever made is the Tichy steam crane - it's not an easy build, but everything goes together as it should and it's so satisfying to complete the project. I think it's wonderful to see Mr. Tichy operating his company with his high standards.

One of my favorite places.' Was there in 2004 for two days. Do they still have the spring switch at the north end of Surf siding onto the main line? This was not CTC territory when I was there, is it now? I caught the north bound Coast Starlight passing a south bound Surfliner that was sitting in the station at Surf Beach. The Coast Starlight went back out onto the main through that spring switch, it didn't even have to stop. I guess they still park the old Southern Pacific bay window caboose in Lompoc. When I was there it was the 4761. I couldn't tell what number the one you caught was. Do they still run only on Thursdays? Great video and thanks for posting. Get that drone working and shoot some more!

This was my first time filming trains in Lompoc so I’m not familiar with the details you mentioned. I did hear from my friend that they just run on Thursdays. The drone is a DJI Neo, which is quite small and is affected by even the slightest winds. When I’m home in North Carolina I’ll be using a larger drone for rail fanning.

It looks like the graffiti criminals in Socal are becoming extraordinarily brazen in their lack of respect for other people's property. It's disgusting and disgraceful. How long before they enter the cab, figure out how to insert the reverser handle, and take a locomotive out for a joy ride, or cause serious damage to the prime mover or other components?

What happens when it rains with water hitting electricity? Very dangerous.
@NCTrainNerd
@NCTrainNerd Жыл бұрын
There isn’t enough voltage or amperage in garden railroads to pose any danger of shock, etc. However, we don’t run when it rains.
@Jjonathanhart
@Jjonathanhart Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think you would run those model trains when it rains, unless they ran off gasoline like amusement park miniature trains.
@NCTrainNerd
@NCTrainNerd Жыл бұрын
A growing number of people are using batteries to power their garden railroad locomotives so they don’t have to clean the tracks. Even they don’t run in the rain because a big part of garden railroading is hanging out with everyone watching the trains.
