I tracked down a HD master of it. Long story short, I'm glad I didn't overpay for this. Don't get me wrong, I love that there's a movie out there with John Lydon & Harvey Keitel featuring music from Ennio Morricone. The movie for me didn't deliver. Maybe I just set the bar too high ?

I remember Barry Norman reviewing it and showing a clip on his show but it took me about 20 years to see it. I've got it on dvd as Corrupt. I was not impressed and just didn't get it. I was a massive PiL fan back then and I'm sure the PiL track they wanted to use for the film was 'The Slab' from the abandoned PIL album 'Commercial Zone' featuring Keith Levene on guitar. Not the later re recorded version retitled The Order of Death which Lydon recorded with session musicians on This is What You Want This is What You Get.

Thanks for filling me in! I bought this as CORRUPT LIEUTENANT soon after I first saw Keitel in BAD LIEUTENANT and wondered about its similar title, since it was older than BL. I forgot I'd cribbed some of Morricone's soundtrack for a sound collage I put together in the late '90s--I didn't remember where I'd got it until I heard the distinctive music at 4:00.

I remember buying this about 20-25 years ago. It was a really awful quality transfer, and if I recall correctly, had some of the profanity censored. I saw some pretty overt similarities to Keitel's later film, The Bad Lieutenant, though Corrupt was somewhat more invested in the sociological implications of police corruption.

I have this on dvd. It goes by Corrupt, Corrupt Lieutenant, Order of Death, and Cop Killer usually. All copies, especially foreign ones are expensive, not including dvd bootIegs. Real oddity in his filmography that's getting a reexamination recently since the Code Red remaster. This is what you want this is what you Get was recorded for this but used in a Miami Vice episode instead if I remember correctly. I find it has more similarity to Fight for your Life type Straw Dogs genre films than The Fan or Fatal Attraction type pictures. Podawful mentioned!

I've seen it a few times (I used to write for a film mag). Despite it having two of my all time favorite performers in the lead, it's terrible. Until this vid I knew next to nothing about the making of. It always seemed to me that despite there being good actors, and an intriguing premise, that an Italian director working with English speaking actors caused a disconnect. Hence that the film comes off as stilted, awkward and dull. The homosexual undertones to it are so severely downplayed that the story just comes off as an exercise in inhibition and shame. Too bad. It seemed to have lots of potential to be another early 80s cult classic.

@@immakingamovie13796:58 he kind of sums it up there. I saw this a long time ago and working from very vague memories but it didn't strike me as terribly intellectual rather the whole premise was kind of contrived and their chemistry never quite congealed to the point where you would say they're in the situation together rather than John and Harvey reciting lines in the same room. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, it was a bit of a disappointment because I'm a huge fan of Lydon and Keitel's work. Giallos had pretty much run their course by that time, the handful of interesting ideas don't really set it apart.
