This is helpful even today, I think I'm going to try a peer support group.

After 9/11 we discovered the DEBRIEFERS also needed debriefing. In our Chaplain Staff colleges we had Chaplains who were at ground zero. They said it was the worst thing as Chaplains they had ever experienced and that was the basis for CISM...so in the future we would be prepared.
@KJ-lb4tj7 ай бұрын
Also at 9/11 the majority of CISM sessions offered were never taken up. Millions of pounds never used and hundreds of contractors sitting in hotels that never got used. Most people heal themselves without interference or talk between themselves with those that went though it with them.

just a suggestion, not a critic: the first woman showed some feelings of guilt, maybe that specific point could've been more addressed. and thank you very much, it is very helpful to share this between us practitioners

Good work, but do you think doctors will support you when you raise concern about wrong doings that inflict pain and suffering to fellow human? NO. Even GMC will harrase and humiliate you, if you raise concern. Modern medicine will soon come to a gridling halt cause treatment resistant and emerging infections is spreading all over the world. www.the-american-interest.com/2017/01/12/superbug-pandemics-and-how-to-prevent-them/

The last thing I expected when seeking to find support for being a victim of medical harm was this. A medical malpractice defense attorney crossing over into the safe zone that is suppose to be for victims of harm. I am so glad I did not join this group. I will never get over being slighted the University of Michigan. Rick knows me and he chooses to pretend I don't exist, yet seems to be making friends with the good people that should be safe for me to associate with as a victim of medical harm. His staff does not disclose their credentials to patients, and they pretend to care until they get you in their grips and complete their staged process. They don't inform the patient that they are lawyers. Their front woman portrays herself as if she's on your level by signing her name as a clinical review staff, not an attorney or a medical professional. The word of the day is Ambush! I read about this new way of doing business in the lawyers weekly magazine when the announcements first started hitting the press, and thought " oh, maybe they've changed, and things will finally be investigated and handled with honesty. Maybe he does care and will do something to stop these doctors. " From my perspective, it is very unsafe for victims of medical harm to be subject to the risk of further harm by risk managers! You cannot guarantee there will be no further harm to a victim when risk managers are given the keys to the court house and the judges chambers. We need to demand audio and video of all interactions between risk managers and their victims, and demand no negotiating or intentionally escalating the victims emotions to distract them aka emotional bullying of victims over the phone with no witnesses. No risk manager should ever be allowed to handle a case without the case being filed with the courts and reported to the Board, and the National Practitioners Data Bank. What happens when a hospital uses a tier system and so called apologies to keep payments below a certain amount so that they can avoid claiming malpractice to their insurance, and or creating a record of a med mal payout? What about auditing? How can a proper audit take place if funds are not being tagged as medical malpractice payouts? How does anyone know what is going on in house, with regard to patient harm and malpractice reporting, if everything is being done behind closed doors and all cases are sealed from public record?

My experience with Mr. Boothman and the University of Michigan's Risk Management Department is very different from what they advertise. My experience has been Deny and Defend with no transparency. Perhaps if I had been in that Boston audience I would have thrown my shoes at Mr. Boothman. I watched the video of Mr. Boothman's keynote address and as a harmed patient I found it highly offensive. He mocks the patients in his stories. The woman with no shirt, the man pulling down his pants, and the couple detailing their sex life. Some in the audience even chuckle. How demeaning! Survivors of patient harm are the true heroes and should be giving keynote addresses at all patient harm/safety gatherings.

This is actually pretty good. I recommend it to any physician and especially those who do procedures. I'm not sure that anything was done wrong but there sure was a terrible outcome. As a physician faced with such as situation, sometimes the most (and least) you can do is show that you care.

I'm not in the medical field but always thought it to be very difficult when someone passed. I'm glad that there are support groups, well know there is. We are all human and all have emotions. I would never understand how anyone could not. God Bless You All for your commitment and love you give to patients.
