This ball can't be bowled to everyone. Only that batsman new to crease with less concentration can be surprised. Otherwise, the speed of this bowl is greater than other deliveries, so he may pick it up easily. My son has become so aware of this delivery that he picks it up very easily. Some tips - 1. it takes years to develop this delivery. It uses the thumb so, train your thumb to get all the load of the ball and the other fingers are support only. 2. You have to internally rotate the wrist as far as possible so that you impart maximum backspin. 3. This Ball should have a lower trajectory than other balls. 4. Bowl it just outside the off-stump. 5. If you practice on surfaces of leather balls you can actually keep the bounce of the ball very low so it becomes doubly dangerous. I am not a professional cricketer but a Doctor by Profession. Respectfully submitted.

I'm still struck after all these years how cricket hasnt learned from baseball with regard to throwing. There are some throws in cricket that require underarm and sidearm but most throws should be overarm and use baseball technique. I see so many times a fielder retrieving the ball short of the boundary and turning and throwing wildly in one motion. Turn, plant your feet and throw with the practiced overarm motion. the time saved by heaving immediately is more than recouped by power and accurancy.

Sir Donald Bradman had this method of unweighting the bat, holding it vertical, blade of the bat facing between point / gully region and creating an arc during the down swing. This allowed him to maneuver the bat in which ever direction he wanted, play the shot late or even change the shot at the last fraction of a second, such a genius !!

Throw happens with forearm and triceps and hip. Not much on shoulders as the common conception is . The shoulders just facilitate the back and forward motion but not for power

The forearm and the triceps are not levers, unlike the toes, ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers.

I have an issue with my throws going high and to the right.. when I try to compensate by delaying the release from my hand, I end up dragging my throws down quite a bit to the ground. Is there an overarm drill that can be done to fix this issue?

To me as an ex-cricketer it sounds like you aren't using enough wrist. As in it should almost whip towards your target. Also glue your eyes on your target. I had a really good arm for distance but I also fielded at backward point and had loads of run outs. It's all down to practice.

@WillGiven-g6j thanks, yep.. I spend a lot of time doing throw downs in the nets with a side arm/wanger.. and I think it may have negatively affected my wrist when I try to throw normally now.. e.g. the wrist does not do much when using the wanger
@WillGiven-g6j
@WillGiven-g6j Күн бұрын
@@JoshLuck That sounds like the culprit. The release point is higher for the throw down tool. Maybe try alternating between the wanger and your arm again. Also make sure you get your front arm high and pointing roughly at the target. This encourages good direction and power as you pivot. Just remember Rome wasn't built in a day.

Point to the target with the index finger of the outstretched opposite arm before you throw. This should ‘anchor’ your aim. Enjoy!
