What is the difference between expository and descriptive? To my knowledge, expository means to explain or describe something, which can also be the definition of descriptive
@professoryu5571
@professoryu5571 23 сағат бұрын
Good question! This classification is a bit vague and there can definitely be some overlap between the two. For TEAS, if the two categories are both provided as answer choices, this is my suggestion: if the topic is science/engineer/technology related and the purpose is to explain a phenomenon, it would likely be expository. Of course, it could also be something that's not science but may require a certain technical background to understand, like how retirement funds work in the finance field or why certain way of investing works better than the other (just a quick example that came to mind). If it's non science related and the objective is to characterize a person or a nonhuman object/topic (like a town, history, culture, transport system of a county, how to prepare for hiking, etc), it would probably description. I really hope ATI would not provide the two categories in the same question as I think it'd be a tricky question rather than something that truly tests a student's reading knowledge. I hope this helps :-)

How is number 1 not genotype? Phenotype means physical characteristics. To genetically be heat and drought resistant doesn't sound phenotype but genotype.
@professoryu5571
@professoryu5571 13 күн бұрын
Good question! Physical characteristics are not limited to things like how a plant looks, like the height, color, etc. Physical characteristics of plants also include physical traits/description of a characteristic a plant would possess such as whether the plant is resistant to drought or heat, whether the plant grows well in acidic or alkaline soil, whether the plant produces toxins that are toxic to predators. If the description does not tell you the gene/allele composition (e.g., heterozygous, homozygous dominant, Gg, or TT), it's likely a phenotype. Hope this helps a little. Let me know if you have further questions. Good thinking.

Hi Prof. Yu. First of all thank you for your channels. Your videos are helpful. I am here to study your reading and science subjects (these are the subjects that need to improved) I have bought sciences materials of your products from Etsy. However, I couldn't find the materials or practice questions for the reading subjects. Could you please give me the link? Secondly, by any chance, do you take personal tutoring job for your online student? I have failed taking the TEAS 7 a week ago and am very upset. I am so closed as 3 % to the minimal scored of the institution that I am applying for. A bit frustrating and is seeking of a tutor help. I'm looking for a tutor to motivate and drill me all the review materials that I need to focused on. Apparently ATI gives the exact focused review materials uniquely to each student that is failed on the TEAS exam. I really enjoy your lecturing style. Please let me know if these information are available. Thank you so much for all your help, Prof. Yu!

Hi! Thank you so much for your message - very kind of you and you absolutely made my day by letting me know my videos are helpful😊 I typically include the Etsy links in "Description" below the video and here's the link for the reading material: www.etsy.com/listing/1202689443/ati-teas-prep-series-a-powerpoint-study?ref=listings_manager_grid I'm sorry to hear that. To be that close to the minimal requirement is frustrating indeed. Glad to hear ATI provides you with recommended review materials based your performance. That will be very helpful. Unfortunately I won't be able to tutor you. Work is getting increasingly busy and is kicking my butt, sigh... I don't even have time to post new TEAS studying materials which is upsetting to me. But I really appreciate you thinking of me and more importantly you trying different strategies toward improving your score. I'm sorry I couldn't do it but I sincerely hope you will find someone who's motivated and teaches in a style that works best for you. I hope next time you take TEAS, you will be 10, 20 points over the minimum. You got this!

Hello Professor Yu, I don't understand the last question's answer. It says the sulfur isotope and I thought for isotopes the number of neutrons must be different but why is the neutron number the same as proton and electron? thank you.
@professoryu5571
@professoryu5571 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, good question. In the question, there's only one sulfur isotope. And for this particular isotope, the number of neutrons is 16. The number of neutrons can be the same as the number of protons and electrons, not always but it could happen. A different sulphur isotope would be sulfur 34. For this isotope, atom#d doesn't change, still 16, but the # of neutrons would be 34-16=18. Now you can see that first, this second isotope has more neutrons than the other isotope. And second, #neutron is different than #atom. Hope this helps! :)

@professoryu5571
@professoryu5571 3 ай бұрын
@@kimjimmy5843 Yes, it would be the time to practice :) The most reliable test and the closest to a real TEAS test would be the practice tests offered by ATI, who makes TEAS questions. Here's the link: www.atitesting.com/teas/practice-assessment-package The only thing is that their practice tests are not very cheap and I wish they could make it more affordable for students. I also have a book on Etsy with 3 practice tests for Science you can use to practice and it's only 5 bucks. Hi! I understand how the genotype is 50% of each on time 25:16, but if it was 1:1 doesn’t that ratio equal to 100%? 😭
@professoryu5571
@professoryu5571 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question! Hopefully I understand your question and where you came from correctly. Your understanding is basically right. Yes, the genotype is 50% of each. That's because the cross only results in two genotypes, Aa and aa, and we know there are in equal proportion in the Punnett Square (hence the 1:1 ratio). Therefore, the two possible genotypes combined would add up to 100%, which is the statement in your question. Actually one way to check on Punnett Square answers is to see if all the ratios add up to 100%. But as ratio and percentage are different terms, you can't directly sum the ratios. For some common crosses, if there are only two genotypes (1:1 ratio), each genotype would occupy 2 squares, which is 50% each and that adds up to 100%. If there are 3 genotypes possible (1:2:1 ratio), the three genotypes would occupy 1, 2, 1 squares, which is 25%, 50%, and 25%. And that sums up to 100%. I hope this helps :-)

@@mariammustafa3476 Many students are kind enough to come back just to let me know how they did. But they may never come back again to check the message since they are done with the test and they are busy with nursing school applications or classes. So you may not get a response... You asked very good questions. Just keep in mind that another student would likely be in a different situation than you (whether they've taken college bio and AP classes, whether they've attempted TEAS before, how much time they set aside to study each day/week, etc.). If you don't hear from this student, you may want to find some practice tests and do a mock test and see where you are at. If you are below 50 for science (count the questions you guessed as wrong even if you guessed right), you would need probably at least 3-4 months to study. I would get a couple more supplemental materials to study alongside this channel. If you've never taken AP before, you would need to get a textbook (can get it free online or from a library). I have a few study materials with links in the description below the video. There are many others but I like mine the best, lol. Hope this helps a little. :-)

You are very welcome! Absolutely. I plan to make 5 more short videos to wrap up the Science section. Then I need to redo the nervous system video since the sound was not great. I'm also thinking about making a TEAS registration FAQ video but I don't think you would need that one - looks like you've pretty far in the process :-)

Forgot to mention, because work has been crazy, it's going to take me several weeks to finish up those 5 videos. But if you've gone through my TEAS 6 videos on the last couple of lessons, you are in good shape.

@@professoryu5571thank you so much!! I've gone through your entire Teas 6 playlist already. It has made memorizing/understanding the science section so simple. Thank you again Dr. Yu! I'm really enjoying these videos.
