Is there any tips for modeling cars? I always struggle to have a good topology and a smooth body.
@3D.PrintMyRideАй бұрын
Maybe I will cover it a little in a future video. We shall see. But to answer you question briefly. The way I model cars is I create the rough body first without caring for topology too much, then I re-topologise over it, using as low of a poly count and as square polygons as I can. This way, you have room to add loopcuts if necessary. Additionally, some people try sectioning off areas of an object using loopcuts across the X & Y, so they can extrude new geometry from it. This often tends to clutter your object with loop cuts all across your model and not just the area you are working in. What I would recommend is using inset faces of smaller and larger areas that are self-contained pockets of geometry. This way if I want to add an indent for the hood, I don't need 3 loopcuts that intersect with the wheels, the spoiler and the numberplate, I can just create an inset across the hood and it creates it's own island of self contained topology. I hope that helps, my friend! Topology is my favorite thing to teach, because it's so unintuitive to so many people. Truly the best way I can recommend is to re-topologise other things. Or to also study other people's models and compare them to your own. If you want existing models low-poly models to reference, try looking into the "Models-Resource" website. 🥰

@ninjaxel93Ай бұрын
I initially thought that merging a hatchback with a sedan you would obtain a station wagon, but a fastback it's fine too!
@HansenSebastian7 күн бұрын
A station wagon is a combination of an SUV and a sedan...but lowered. An SUV rear + sedan front combo while maintaining its ride height is a crossover.
@ninjaxel937 күн бұрын
@HansenSebastian Personally i do not agree, i mean station wagons are literally born as (and continue to be) sedans with rear hatches, an suv has a different chassis and construction, it's not just a height difference. The crossover as we generally see it on the other hand has a car chassis (so sedan or wagon based in general) with the rised stance and shape similar to an suv. In the video's case he has come up with a fastback for mixing the "volumes" of a sedan and a hatch, but if you think about it, in the real world there are a lot of wagons that are just the sedan version of the car but mixed with a hatchback instead of a trunk.

Nope. Coupes only have two or three doors (yes, I said three because of the hatch counting as a door). This design has four or five doors (with the fifth door being the rear hatch).

@HansenSebastian7 күн бұрын
There is no such a term in the automotive industry. Two car body styles fused together do not create a portmanteau term. An SUV with a sedan's front end isn't a "sedan utility vehicle", but a "crossover". An SUV front with a sedan's rear is a "crossover sedan" not a "sport utility sedan". But if the two body styles merge in shape, it would make a "liftback" like the A7 Sportback.
