I am enjoying the wonderful production process. 4:36 Can you tell me where I can purchase the carbon decals for FW14 only?

Keep searching on eBay or F1 modelling forums, they do come up from time to time. However I used Studio27 & Scale Motorsport carbon decals, the FW14B template set is horribly over scaled so I wouldn’t recommend using them.

Hello, soon I will start with the same project (tamiya FW14B + TopStudio). I saw that you use Loctite 420, what other Loctite do you use?

Sean, i use 70% IPA on the C/F decals, no need for the hair dryer. Try it on a piece of scrap, you'll be amazed ! I wouldnt recommend it for the less experienced, but you'll obviously have no trouble at all. You had me stumped for the first part of the video untill i realised the brake's are the thunder vally ones. Is the second build for someone else ?

Thanks John. That’s a new one on me but I’ll deffo give it a try. Yes the 2nd build is for a friend in our model club (Tangmere Scale Modellers). My Mansell car has the TVM brakes whereas the Patrese car has the Top Studio versions.

@@scalereproductions I stumbled on it when i was doing the mclaren. I stuck my paintbrush in the IPA by mistake when i was doing a tricky recessed bit behind the ECU that was fighting me, untill i made that lucky mistake. I've tried them all sean but would use nothing else now. I even use it on easy flat stuff that doesnt really need anything. I did concider going with the patrese decals but i just couldnt go through all this work and not put on RED 5 😑

Thanks… it works for me - the secret is choosing the correct highlight colour to make the highlight subtle and smooth, too bright a colour and the effect can look powdery.

I've no idea why you dont have way more views and subs with this quality and level of building. There is only really yourself and the japanese bloke thats on YT. It's the quickest half hour for me this week and only one of a tiny amount that i watch right til the end. It does seem really familiar though 🙈 Keep up the good work !

@@scalereproductions I've just finished my own yesterday. I'll be up-loading the final pictures on ISM if your interested. I started 1st jan 2023 and have around 750 hrs in it. I think it'll be a bike next, either the suzuki GSX 20 or the kawasaki ZX RR, although the chain puts me off with the ZX RR, it just looks like a bag of silver dust 🙈 Anyway, looking forward to your next video. I am contemplating embarking on this same journey. Just doing the costing at this stage of the enhancement/detail kits, to compliment this build. Hobbyeasy in Hong Kong has a Top Studio Detail Master Super Detail-Up Kit for HKD$2,580 which just about covers everything. Was just wondering the comparison of this kit to the ones you bought. Thank you.
@scalereproductions
@scalereproductions 6 ай бұрын
Hi Richard, yes they are the same sets that I used, in my opinion these are some of the best detail sets available for any kit, and certainly the best I’ve used. I would recommend 100%. You do need to follow the instructions alongside the Tamiya manual too as it’s easy to miss things, but the diagrams were excellent and the fit is absolutely incredible. Best of luck, & shout up if I can help further.

@@scalereproductions thank you very much for your speedy reply and is much appreciated. @@scalereproductions I find it so difficult to build at that level of detail for hours at a time. I would happily sacrifice exact scale size for some parts to be just that little bit bigger just to make it a bit easier to work on. Your doing a fantastic job, you make it look so easy and relaxed.

I'm on number 2 and so far, enjoying your work. The 14B is an amazing car and I'm sure you'll do it justice. I had the Andy Mathews McLaren MP4 he built for a few years and sold it to a BMW dealership in Michigan USA. The 1/12 McLaren MP4 was pretty amazing with plenty of detail. I took a ton of photos of it because I was going to attempt to build one myself and even made a poster out of it. I understand Mathews did a 14B and released a book of his builds, needless to say, It's hard to find these days. Anyway, great work and taking my time watching these logs... bravo brother.

Thanks @bosmeck. Wow, owning one of Andy Mathew’s builds is something to remember, I’ve spent many hours looking at his incredible work and his FW14B book was very useful for references during this build. Correct me if I’m wrong but there were plans to release more books under the ‘Clearview F1’ name however as far as I’m aware no more were ever released. Next video should be up soon. Thanks again for your kind comments. Best wishes, Sean.

@scalereproductions
@scalereproductions 7 ай бұрын
Thanks, fairly sure you will find the TS sets equally amazing, the fit and quality is as good as I’ve ever come across and it really does add so much to the car, but in a proportionate and accurate way. There are more photos on my FB page, and I will try and include some photos in my later videos too.

Where did you get the carbon fiber decals from ? I have a 1/12 Tamiya FW14B kit with the full Top Studio detail set. The Tamiya 1/12 kits do not come with carbon decals. Also, I looked up Thunder Valley for the brake set and they only have a spindle and wheel nut set, did you buy the brake set from them or from someone ? Thanks.
@scalereproductions
@scalereproductions 8 ай бұрын
Hello Raymond. The carbon decals were all purchased separately, they are just sheets of non templated decals from Tamiya & Fujimi. I don’t think Thunder Valley make the full break set anymore and to be honest I feel the Top Studio versions are better anyway, they just need ‘dulling down’ slightly as they are very shiny 👍🏻

Nice! I'm nearly ready to start building mine. Years ago, I started with painting the cowling, but that failed miserably. I was surprised, because I previously build the McLaren MP4/6 and Ferrari 641/2 (also 1/12) and that went perfectly. I sprayed the cowling with cans, but I was (in hindsight) stupid not to prime the plastic. The yellow wouldn't catch, so I got frustrated and threw the kit somewhere in a cupboard. But now I'm going for it, and also bought the Top Studio kits to make it even nicer. Your videos are a great help!
