The movie wasn’t a political statement… it was a social commentary about how the patriarchy hurts both women and men. The actress who portrayed Ruth handler even said towards the end that we humans come up with concepts and constructs to make us feel comfortable about uncomfortable things. How did that all fly past your head?
@GIDOJO5 күн бұрын
I think my opinion of the Barbie movie is totally reasonable and well thought out. I am a fan of the movie. I thought it was pretty cool. I do however think it was a bridge too far to try to use a Barbie movie as a vehicle to create some paradigm shift in society. Abolishing the patriarchy is in fact a political issue; “By calling for the dismantling of a societal system, the phrase is inherently political, advocating for changes in power dynamics and social structures.” I am neither for or against these cries to “smash the patriarchy”…. I want people to get their opinions out there and express themselves. In this specific instance however, I still stand by my statement that the Barbie movie didn’t “stick the landing” with its feminist storyline. It’s a good message, just told poorly.

I like the head sculpt on the Target Duke figure. It has such a personality to it with the smirk and raised eyebrow. I'm thinking of trying to get one and transferring his head to a classic collection body. I might even try to customise the uniform to match his first 3.75 figure.

I just got the Duke figure. He came in a lot with karate chopping Snake eyes. I was mainly after SE so I could transfer the outfit and head to a 21st century body for more pose-ability. At first I was going to just donate Duke...but he looked so charming. I'd forgotten how neat the HOF figures were even though they lacked in articulation, they were built tough to withstand kid play. Duke is now displayed alongside my other 12" figures.
@GIDOJOАй бұрын
Yeah, it’s easy to look back now and make fun of these figures but when I was a kid and my neighbors loved these figures!!

...I saw "Hombre", in the Xmas Wish Book in October, and began begging my Mom for him.. Hombre was so cheap how could she refuse?...I had a hang-up with the then popular fuzzy faced Joes...Hombre was regulation, clean shaven with exotic jungle fatigues, and unlike stingy Hasbro Joes- Hombre came with lots of weapons (compare <0:43>)... However, on Christmas day Hombre turned out to be a huge disappointment... hollow, thin plastic body, far too light to compete with G.I. Joe's hardened Kung Fu Grip...a rubbery collapsing head...Arms and legs that perpetually unjointed, falling out of the weak, and ever expanding soft plastic shoulder/hip socket holes. And hands, not well designed to weld any of his worthy weaponry....Weak, China cheap, and deliciously soft...Hombre. met his bitter armless End, as a bad dog's chew toy...."Hombre" was in fact the very last Action Figure, I ever owned as a child...and my very last Action Figure for long decades...that is until nostalgic adulthood... ps: Hombre's knife was a knock off of the common G.I. Joe Scuba Knife and its deep diving vinyl ankle Sheath...the diving sheath, was attached by metal stable to Hombre's Ammo Belt...that metal staple also really turned me off...I don't recall, what type of Rifle and Pistol came with him...I seem to remember the pistol holster was also stapled on, but the holster flap, at least, hid the ugly metal staple...

That is the best Bane I have seen in any scale! My favorite Batman in that line was the Michael Keaton version (I got it for a friend and upgraded the cape). For what they are, they are great toys at a good price point. I do prefer the toys with removable clothes and a "generic" build because they are easier to customize, but this is why I don't worry about 12 inch scale toys going away. Right now there is a big focus on superheroes, but the wheel will turn again and someone will design for "modularity" and the customization by kids will take off.

It’s a cliché answer, but even if it is hours away, IKEA is a one stop shop for cheaper than Walmart, affordable shelving and display cases. to display the figures on the wall I use IKEA picture frame shelves and the glass cabinets are called the IKEA Detolf. I need to do an updated tour of the room. In my three main cabinets, I have the Beavis and Butthead collection right now, but I rotate it out with G.I. Joe every so often.
