Are the ducks good out there? Or do you need to house them in a different shelter?
@BurntBrassHomestead9 күн бұрын
The ducks are locked up in the duck house each night. They are more cold hardy than the chickens.

In my town we had a decent selection of *some* produce earlier this week, but a large portion of fruits were transferred to the discount bin. I don't know if the problem was with the shipper or the farm. Eggs were up nearly 50% in a month. It's going to be a bumpy year.

Yeah, it seems like things will not be getting much better in 2025.

Living on my own I put up rice in jars using my vacuum sealer attachments, jars let me store almost anywhere; under the dresser, bed or any spare niche. I found if you have a deep freezer a couple days are good, but if you only have a fridge freezer unit longer lets the cold get all the way to the center of the bag.

Thanks for sharing this bit of information, for those who may not have a deep freezer👍🏾

It came out great! I’m sure it was absolutely delicious! Have you ever cooked on a fire pit outside?
@BurntBrassHomestead17 күн бұрын
Yes, it truly was delicious. In regards to cooking on a fire pit outside...yes. Before 2020, I went camping a couple times every year, and we would cook on an open pit. We even built one on the homestead this past year. I hope to use it more after winter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zn3dhYWlbLZlmpI

After finding the new part numbers. We found it on Amazon and Ebay. But we ended up calling a couple (somewhat) local places to see if they would ship overnight. So, we ordered one from Amazon, which was a 3 day shipment. But ended up getting the one from a hardware place in our state within 2 days.

Hello we are really just starting our homestead we are hoping to move to our homestead as soon as our cabin is finished being built we have had gardens for a long time but we have a lot to learn about it all. We also travel around helping homesteaders and to learn how to be better at it all we do this all for free. We film it all for our very small KZbin channel
@BurntBrassHomesteadАй бұрын
Hi 👋🏾 It is wonderful that you are helping homesteader. On occasion, I enjoy watching a show call Homestead Rescue, although I am not sure how much the show is scripted. It is fun to watch. I think your channel is going to do well. I would love to post as much as you guys, unfortunately, I do not have the time with work and all. But keep putting out content and stay in touch. Thanks for you watching and commenting.

I just discovered your channel this morning. I am really enjoying it, it is right up my alley! I also have a Faceless YTube channel which I started about 7 months ago. (I am very much still learning and not very good!). I recently started my own wood stove 'series', so it is very interesting to see your video. I am in Australia, but we get snowy Winters like you. I subscribed. Take care.. 🙂

Why not keep them in a chicken tractor?...if predators is the answer, understand, I'm building a chicken tractor for multiple use, no ground cover
@BurntBrassHomestead2 ай бұрын
We typically only use the chicken tractors for our meat birds. And those 8-12 weeks of moving them to fresh pasture, their food, and water is enough work😊 Originally when I started homesteading, I made the stationary coop with a secure run. I did not work from home at the time, so the coop and run needed to be secure. Also, the coop and run area was designed to allow me to leave the homestead for up to 4 days without needing anyone's help to feed, water, and secure the flock. Plus, I like the idea of the chicken having a little more freedom to move around and jump on the various roost bars that are in their run. We also, let them out on fresh grass each day. We setup temporary fencing in the opening of the stationary coop door that leads out to areas of fresh grass. The temporary fence is moved every several days to ensure the chickens do not eat up all the grass in that section. So, it gives them a little more freedom to roam and eat😀 In regards to predators, we do have fox, raccoon, and possums. Thanks for your question👍🏾
