Hi Lorenzo; I would like refer you to the information on my about KZbin page: "This KZbin channel is provided to support the activities of the Durham Duplicate Bridge in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. ... I create and post a video analysis of 2-3 hands from each BBO game as a way to provide extra content for new to intermediate students. The videos are available for everyone, but they are also particularly useful for those who have played in the referenced game. I use these videos to assist players who are new, up to intermediate, in learning the fundamental tools and tricks to play bridge well." If you find the material putting you to sleep, then perhaps it is not for you. I am not going to present hands worthy of a national champion because that is not the purpose of this channel. Thank you for your feedback. Rob

I support bridge hands but all yours are "bunny" hands where the suits always break, the defenders always make favorable leads. Great for beginning players? In the real bridge world suits dont always break; dont always get the gift leads from defenders. Is the training for livinging room bridge or ACBL club?

Hand 16 can be made irrespective of position of S honours. - win H in dummy. - cash DK revealing bad break. - play Hearts discarding C from dummy. -play CA. -ruff a C in dummy. - come to hand with DA. -ruff CQ in dummy. -come to hand by DQ thereby drawing the last trump. -play S to dummy’s 10. - your RHO is end played.

I try not to include too many advanced conventions in these videos. I don't want to overwhelm beginner and intermediate players. Serious and Non-serious 3NT are fairly advanced. As a personal choice, I prefer non-serious 3NT. Both are a good addition to 2/1. Cheers, Rob

re why transferring to hearts and bidding spades shows 55? What if you have an invitational 4522 hand and partner has say 3 hearts? 2344 max you want to be in 4 hearts.

Hi John; With a 4-card major, always start with Stayman. That includes all hands with 5-4-x-x and 6-4-x-x. If partner shows a 4-card major, you have found a fit. If partner bids 2D, denying a 4-card major, jump to 3 of your 5-card major to show 5-4 and game forcing (or bid 3 of your 4-card major if playing Smolen) With 5-5 in the majors, transfer to 2H and then bid 2S = invitational with 5-5 in the majors transfer to 2S, then bid 3H = game-forcing with 5-5 in the majors This approach is the "standard". You could create some other approach, but I have found this works just fine. Cheers, Rob

Not impressed. When you wake up to the 21st century and present private lessons in a classroom setting with a real whiteboard, you’ll look a lot less like the 70-year-old dork that you are that helped to ruin the game and make us younger players feel unwelcome.

Opening 2C with 3 losers, but not being able to open at the 1 level with 4 losers doesn't seem very logical to me. I think that you should open 1D with your hand. Trying to count the points, you've got 7 high card points, at least 4 length points with the diamonds, and you've got a fit in diamonds, so you should be able to add 10 for the 2 voids. You've got pretty much 20 points here. The way the hand played out IMHO proves that you make 4S pretty much alone, just with the 3 spades of your partner.

Unnecessary to ruff that Club so early.Just draw trumps and ruff out the Diamonds if they break 4-1. As it happens they are 3-2 ,so you have an easy 13 tricks - 5 Spades and a Club ruff in Dummy , 6 Diamonds and the HA.

No way should North be asking. Respond 2NT on the North hand ( 8-12 ,Balanced). Now 3S-4S- 4NT-5D( 1 Ace )-6S.
@durhamdbc
@durhamdbc 10 ай бұрын
Hi William; Thanks for your passionate response :) Your bidding is very standard and right out of a textbook. I, however, have a few differences to my bidding theory - When someone opens 2C, they have a big hand (in hcp and/or playability) - I generally bid 2D (waiting) because it gives the 2C opener as much room as possible to describe their hand - I don't respond 2NT to a 2C opening because it contravenes the previous point and it can wrong-side the contract On this auction, South was able to show the 5+ spades and the unbalanced nature of their hand and that is game forcing (this last point is mine). When North makes a simple raise, the rule of fast arrival is in play (because 2S was game-forcing), so North has shown their potential slam interest. South makes a cue-bid because he wants to know if the diamonds are stopped by North. Cue-bid auctions are superior because they allow you to find making slams and stay out of unmaking slams. Clearly North has enough to go to slam opposite a 2C opening, almost all the time. In your auction, there are a couple of concerns. - If North has 1 ace, which one is it? - If its the ace of hearts, then there could easily be two diamonds losers off the top - North's raise to 4S in your auction is a sign-off, showing a minimum with 3 spades and no slam interest (even in your textbook) - Is North really slammish? With 12 hcp opposite a 2C opening, I would say they are. There's a reason that all the pros use cue-bids. They remove ambiguity. My final point is to suggest that in almost all 2C auctions, it is responder who should be deciding if slam is viable, not the opener. Opener has a strong, easily described hand. Responder is the big unknown. I trust my partners to use their judgement. Have a great day.

In the 3rd hand, when you cue bid your diamond control with 4D, I'm used to this meaning that you don't have the club control, and so your partner should only continue if they do have the club control. But here he bids 4H without the club control. I thought he had to bid 4S, because there's a missing control. I don't think that the 3C means club control. You could have QJT of clubs for example, and be asking for A or K.
@durhamdbc
@durhamdbc 9 ай бұрын
Hi Bruce; Since I already bid 3C, I am forcing (manipulating) my partner to cue-bid hearts if they have one. By bypassing clubs after having bid them already, there is a strong inference that I am not worried about clubs. There is nothing wrong with bidding 4C. Since I have the ace of diamonds, partner will make the same heart cue-bid. In general, you are correct, a club cue-bid is clearer to partner. Great observation. Cheers, Rob
