This is kind of the way screenwriting works. If the producers feel like they need a re-write, and then the re-write doesn't work either, they get someone to re-write the re-write, without ever considering taking a second look at the original.

Being someone who is a devotee of musical theatre I lay the term genius on the likes of Charles Strouse. It’s a G-D given talent that not only produces wonderful memorable “tunes” but gives so much of themselves for inestimable pleasure of others. After seeing and listening it certainly confirms The Sun will Come out Tomorrow.

Art…. My seed began to grow in 1978 and now after decades of making art in several medias including writing it continues to be one of the legs in which my table stands. My artist path has been in the shadows apparently for a very limited few to be aware of finding my fuel and drive from only my ongoing belief and witness to what seems to extraordinary talent to me that I must honor. Being an artist for me has been a lonely and inescapable path. I have among many other unpublished writings, two books and have held in my mind now for a bunch of years a third titled, Life as an Unknown Artist. A book dedicated to the majority of artists that honor their calling as they produce their art from the shadows never to see the light of public appreciation. I suppose we are the folk artists, the crafters, the hobbyists, or just somehow shy.

Considering Merman was attached to Gypsy before Laurents was, it's kind of hard to believe he didn't write it for her. Sondheim & Styne certainly did.

he did! Many times. Check out his work in Rocky Horror, Tick Tick Boom, Taboo. His Che in Evita is my fave, don't tell Mandy Patinkin. Welcome to the world of Raul! He's the best.

Amazing as always! I just wonder why, in her version, it’s “the king of the river” as supposed to “an old king”. Anyone knows? Thank you 😍
@martynasmatutis82844 ай бұрын
Since she originated the role and was there through all the revisions, perhaps it's an older/alternate version of the lyrics.
@andrewpemberton-fowler5296Ай бұрын
“The King of the Rivers” is the original lyric. It evokes the ancient feeling of the song a meadowlark, a God of the Sun, and the King of the Rivers. “An old king” is the cabaret lyric which divorces the song from its ancient, fable intention.
@CountryCowboy008Ай бұрын
@@andrewpemberton-fowler5296 but in the off Broadway and off West End productions, it’s “the old king”. I need to ask this to Stephen Schwartz asap 🤣

This is more precious than gold. More insights in a brief hour than in years of study. Reminds us how lucky we were to have this brilliant man share his work with us, to have lived in the same era with him.
