Thank you so much for this tutorial! Stripped one of hte back plate screws so I had to do some weird stuff to just swing the plate around so I could replace it, but my switch is now running perfectly! I will never do this again! So stressful, but you walked me through it! :)

Replaced my switch fan today you don’t actually need to remove the heat sink it’s fiddly but you can do it without removing it

An easier way that i found out is that you can peel the copper/pink sticker and access the 3rd one without it being complicated.

I use the X and Y buttons to jump in Smash Bros. Are the buttons pressure sensitive like the OG Gamecube controller so I can short hop and full jump? Otherwise looks like an interesting controller to check out. I like the custom buttons and the larger D-Pad. OG cube D-pad was a joke.

I tested and confirmed the X and Y buttons are pressure sensitive. I was able to short hop.

Good questions. I'm not sure. Side by side with an Xbox series controller they are almost identical in size so I would think it will fit.

Thank you for the clear instructions. Unfortunately my controller won't come on after installing the replacement part. Is there an obvious thing that might have caused it please? (I have no extra screws or parts that I might have forgotten before screwing it all back together). Thanks

Oh no. I'm sorry that happened. I suggest taking the controller apart and checking for any pinched cables. I also suggest removing and reseating the shoulder buttons. It's possible the install held down a button or pinched a cable. Look for anything loose or out of place.

Hello! Resolved. While reassembling it, I bent the metal strips that usually touch the AA batteries, so it wasn't getting any juice - Def my bad. The controller works like a dream. Thank you again 😊

Always disconnect the battery when working with the mainboard. I skipped forward to watching a metal screwdriver being used to pry up the CPU heat shield and seeing the battery still connected... yikes. A short on the mainboard (dropped screws as well) could damage it.Thanks for answering my question regarding the third location. :)

What's up with the location of the black and white buttons even on the official Xbox controllers? I don't play fighting games but for someone who does I feel like the black and white buttons are in the wrong spot to give you a six button layout. Unless they thought for some reason Sony was going to sue them grabbing four shoulder buttons I can't come up with any reason why they would have put the black and white buttons there and even so they should have put them in a better spot like Sega.

I wonder if the Arctic MX-6 can be used between the lid and the heatpipe, since it's viscous too. + also if it's still ok to spread that with a spatula or if it's ok to also put the pea size since it's quite more viscous than the Arctic MX-4 kind of pastes.

Arctic MX-6 should work great. I prefer to put a small amount and allow pressure to spread rather than manually spread.

You can check the pink thermal paste connecting the metal shield to the heat pipe. If the paste is dried out it is best to clean and replace.
