At the time this film was made there were still men manning the level crossing gates in America. You see the man ‘operating’ the gates on the layout. In Russia they had women operating gates on level crossings in 1992 when I saw them running them

The whistle sounds more like the T-Rex in the first Jurassic Park movie than the real 611 J! (I heard it right after 611 was restored in 2015.) Otherwise I like the model. Thanks.

I have recently acquired the same engine from a garage sale! It had an old D battery that had been corroding for the past 25 years in it. I was able to salvage it though and have removed all corrosion. After I cleaned up the wheels and contact spots, re-greased and lubricated everything I was able to get it moving quite well around the tracks. I couldn’t believe it was actually still working. I am very new to this though and was wondering if the loud buzzing is normal for it. I also have noticed that the horn relay makes a loud buzzing noise when the train is in gear and brings the train to a halt, is this normal?

I want ro swap shells on my AF SD70 ace and need more info, I've taken out all the pertinent body mounting screws and the front of the engine is still being held by some screws that I don't see.

My guess is this is from the early 1950s but maybe earlier. My Dad started building a large Lionel layout in our basement in 1958. I recognize some of the accessories. It was three levels and he painted cement for the mountain effect. We had a 1960 Santa Fe passenger set and there was a Lionel steam locomtive with freight cars along with a running maintenance car. The layout came down when I started college in 1971. Must have rubbed off on me years later not to be a model railroader but from taking weekend to weekend trips on AMTRAK to see The West. Thanks for this video on KZbin. Also great memories of seeing layouts at department stores.

Do you think maybe you could do a story on the two dome tank car and Lionel made two styles of this tank car my favorite was the Sunoco and the other one was rocket fuel....

So sad that the "real" 156 is now sidelined on a dead track in Beech Grove (April 2024) and looking like its insides have been gutted judging by its removed roof hatches. It spent years showing up all over the country as Amtrak's goodwill ambassador for the 40th. And here I am trying to track down one of these beauties some 14 years after this review. Wish me luck.

I recently began wondering how Lionels naming system for its transformers works. I assume the L in ZW-L stands for Legacy, but that's all I can make sense of.

You might have mentioned which accessories can be activated by an insulated track section. Not all your viewers may be aware how handy it is to use these in lieu of pressure contractors.

This is a great review. I have a 9' x 8' layout that is a loop with a spur line, using an MTH Z4000 transformer, and operating with Lionel Cab1. Most of my engines I own are Lionel, but I do have 4 MTH engines. I was at Nicholas Smith trains the other day and saw the PRR version in person and must say it is a very nice-looking engine. Watching the review, these are very impressive, especially for the price. I plan on getting a few of these in the future which is now pushing me to get set up so I can operate DCS. I just need to figure out what I have to purchase to run DCS.

How do lionel trains change direction is it by changing polarity or does it have a reverse motor
@averagerobloxian9077
@averagerobloxian9077 8 ай бұрын
Actually, has a special unit called an E unit, basically the unit takes power from the rollers, which then, depending on what position it’s in, will send through one of three wires(forward, reverse, neutral) to the motor, making it spin in One Direction, or the other

Once you have the body on it its more stable. That said it wasn't particularly happy with the FasTrack switches, but neither are a lot of locomotives, even modern ones.
