Steve Cochran was the villain, if you want to see a real messed up ending check out his death on Wikipedia. A real Twilight zone ending!

So I did as you suggested and went and checked on his death on Wikipedia. That is indeed, wild. I couldn't imagine being stranded on a boat for 10 days with a decaying corpse.

It was a civilian ship not a a naval vessel, that's why he was condemned to relive it again and again.
