Where is this 5/10/97 version of Lie for a Lie from? I was thinking it was the Black Cat in DC, but that was a week later on 5/17, and nothing from 5/10/97 appears on the archive…

Potentially I mislabeled the date I will look into it thank you for letting me know!

I love when Built to Spill does their long ass psychotic Velvets like renditions of songs…the live versions of Lie For A Lie from 1997 are just next level Sister Ray like territory for me, and that’s the highest praise I can offer to anything! I think you’ve got the Black Cat version on another video which is mind bending.

Which by the way WAS on 5/17, an error of which I have corrected. Thank you! There is nothing better than a stretched out bts jam!

1997/98/99 were such epic years in terms what they did live, the transformations that transpired. I love all era and epochs of BTS, but 97/98 fuckin slaps!

they need the other 2 guitars imo

that would be rad but doug is still pretty amazing on his own with everything he's pulling off here. wonder if those guys would ever come back.
@cleftturnip7774 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesvergara8041 for sure. But I'd be a bit hesitant calling it Built to spill.
@Built2Chill Жыл бұрын
Sometimes I agree, it depends on the era in question. Built to Spill started as a 3 piece.

I can agree and see what you mean in that the additional guitars make for a more full and rich sound than only one guitar is capable of providing, however one of the brilliant/unique/beautiful aspects about BTS, IMO, is that the variations in ensemble has allowed for variations in sound which, in my perspective, allows for these songs to take on new meanings, can take me to new places within (and without), and is equally as exciting as is the five piece. If Im being fair with myself, I enjoy all of it, 3 piece/5piece/SoloDug, and everywhere in between.

Thanks for this--I am so blessed to have such a dedicated fanbase so I can enjoy more BTS music! The riff/ instrumental at 20:xx is from Built Too Long.
@Built2Chill Жыл бұрын
Most definitely! The explanation in the description is a quote directly out of the source page for this song, but I also found it surprising, the notation made about built too long.

@@gloppp43I wouldn't claim to know EVERYTHING about BTS, but one thing I will recognize before I recognize my own face in a mirror is a classic riff off the classic, classic that is UAW.

Yes, inspired by a poet, uhru black (spelling*), a friend of the band, I think they started playing versions of the song in late 97, early 98 or so, and was released in 1999 on keep it like a secret.
