The scoring of this anime is top drawer. Truly games and anime are setting the standard and their composers will be up there with Goldsmith, Williams, Bergersen et al.

I still don't like his older works but this whole soundtrack is great. For me the difference is there is variety while still maintaining a motif, but also I just don't get why the audio quality in Violet Evergarden is so much worse. Is it really just Philharmonic Orchestra Prague's recording equipment being bad? Reminds me of early Alfred Brendel recordings.

23:30 [Guren no Ikari] is my favorite track, maybe because it's something that i don't usually hear from Tanaka and also reminds me of a composer known for that violent/aggressive music, yes that's Bernard Herrmann :) [The Chariot Ride] kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ-Yin9nm9OgeJo but perhaps the obvious source of influence is Stravinsky ...
