My 7 month old border collie doesn't let my husband and I touch each other. Also, I think she has kennel anxiety. We have to keep her in there at night cause she gets into everything and she will whine, paw, and bite the kennel. The only way to get her to be quiet is if she comes into the bedroom which I don't want to do but we have to get some sleep. Please help

Hi! Are you local to the Reno area? If so, please send me an email and I’d be happy to get you set up with lessons. If you are not in my area, I am familiar with different trainers in the states and I’d be happy to recommend some that would be able to help you and your dog. This sounds like a behavioral issue that absolutely needs to be addressed by a professional and it would be great for you to work together in person with someone.

I got my Dane when she was 6 weeks old. I trained her almost the same way that you train. However I added hand signals along with all the other commands/requests. No food rewards, voice, physical touch is as rewarding as the treat thing. The "Go laydown" command was handy. Yes, she DIDNOT like being alone, she ALWAYS wanted to be with me. "Heel" was one of the very first she learned. My extended invisible leash was my arms length. I loved watching her think things thru.

What size ruff Kennel do you have for your dog? :) I have a 16 week Labradoodle. And he is 30 lbs and 26in long already I want to get him the proper car kennel just not sure what size is best for him
@renotahoedogtraining3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would recommend a large. Most XL are too big to fit in cars but a large is perfect 😊

@renotahoedogtraining4 жыл бұрын
ChasetheAce2019 I don’t personally. Most of the great breeders that my clients have gotten their pups from are in California. Blu came from Arizona! Just make sure you do your research and the breeder does genetic health testing and OFA Hips. They should also be able to produce previous litter owner ‘reviews’.

You know what I did with my 9 month old lab and jack mix Luna, when she’d jump up, I’d grab her paws and “dace” with her, she doesn’t like it, so she doesn’t do it anymore! It’s a pretty useful technique, she’s just gotta learn how to not jump up on the counter and eat my food 0~0

And my old dog Logan who recently passed away was the perfect dog, he didn’t need a leash and he didn’t jump or anything, he was the best dog anyone could ever have, he was my best friend, I keep his ashes in a locket so I can take him everywhere, he was a hero, and so smart.

That's amazing that you can make so much progress with her in only a couple weeks! Is that an E-Collar I see? Do y'all use e-collars in training? I know they're kinda controversial but if they work that well then I'm all for it!

@richardreed91666 жыл бұрын
Will never understand why you have to resort to shocking the dog when humane methods work just as well. He wasn't even a badly behaved dog. You have now taught him obedience through fear and once you take away the punishment (The E Collar) he has no incentive to obey. If you train humanely and use your voice to tell him right from wrong then he will obey because he will want to obey. Dogs can't generalise so they will not understand commands under different conditions (With E collar). I pray he doesn't suffer from problems down the line.
@renotahoedogtraining6 жыл бұрын
Richard Reed: Thank you for your comment! Actually, Drake is doing great! He rarely uses the e-collar now! It sounds like you have been very badly misinformed about how e-collars work and how to properly train dogs with them. I'm sorry to hear that. Our methods are very humane, and wherever you might live, I HIGHLY recommend visiting one of our facilities to ask questions to become informed, and perhaps even try our collars on yourself so you can feel what one feels like :) We expose our dogs to different environments everyday so they get exposed to a lot, that way they will listen to their handler, no matter what distraction is going on! :)

You asked about a hundred times to Sit, so he learned that you don't really mean it. You should only ask once! Then you show him! HE will eventually get it when you say sit sit sit sit sit sit, but it takes longer.
@renotahoedogtraining6 жыл бұрын
I think you are talking in the beginning of the video where I'm trying to see if he knows anything? I'm NOT teaching him, just again, trying to figure out if he knows what "sit" means. As you can see in the 'after' portion of the video, he responds very quickly when we are out working :)

Sorry double comment bc I hadn't watched the whole video :) I loved the off leash walking as well and this shows me how behaved my girl actually is. I have a lot of stress over whether people will think she's not well-behaved enough but she can do all of these things. We also take both of ours to the baseball field to run even though you aren't supposed to.. no one around here cares though hahaha

This is awesome!! people don't realize how well trained these dogs need to be otherwise they can be so out of control... my favorite part is when you leave the food and go out of the room, my 3 YO girl does the same and would never touch it. Really good job :)

They are not weird, Great Danes are gentle and kind and although their size corresponds to a horse i dont think calling a Great Dane a "Weird looking horse" is acceptable as no one asked for your opinion. Great Danes are the best.

This is so amazing. We had a mail 'doodle show up on our back porch when it was about 4 month old. He was on the road for a while and lived under the deck for a day or so before we saw him. He was undernourished and very nervous of us. We seem to have a problem with having stray dogs showing up on our property. We now have 5 rescue dogs that came here and never left. Unfortunately, these all end up as inside dogs. They train us well. 'Charlie' (the 'doodle') does do the jumping that you have shown in the first of the video. He also is very active. It is very slow to get him to interact properly with the other dogs in the house. We keep him in a cage (large) in the front room when he is in the house. We hope he will calm down, but he is very active at 10 months now. He is almost more than we can handle, but it would not be right to give him to someone else because he is trying, but is slow. I have no idea on how to train dogs and we have been lucky to just have them work out automatically. I think you have done great with this. Good work.
