Yes, "Heartland" does take place after the initial events of "State of Decay 2" and includes Lily Ritter's narrative extending from the original game, linking back to her previous activities and her current involvement with the network. Had a lot of fun with this game. Really fun if you are able to get some buddies together. The only thing I'm picky about is the lack of character customization, but man this is a fun game.

Yeah, you need a lot of time..minimum 4 hrs just to start the game...so 30-50hrs or more should do ok...;P

Yeah, it’s just wild. Hard to explain how awesome this format is. I'm like 'WOW' every time a game supports it. And with Permafrost, because it's so realistic and detailed, it just feels right. Cant wait for the full game:)

Your dog will follow you if you harvest your kills and feed and pet him. Then you don't have to blow your whistle just to have nothing happen. Also, if you kill a bear, harvest him. Otherwise you're just some guy who killed a bear. Life in the game isn't just about how many cloth scraps you can carry and canned meat.

I actually had a bit of trouble with my equipment-my shiv wasn’t working, and I had to scramble for stone to craft a new one. By the time I got back, the bear had disappeared! You can see it all go down in my video. Just to clarify, I'm exploring different strategies and having a blast with the game. Since it's not the full version yet, I'm taking the opportunity to experiment and just have fun with it. Its a really good game.
