Thank you for the video. Normal People is by far, my favorite thing I’ve ever watched. I have rewatched it so many times and it makes me feel so much with every watch. It doesn’t feel like you are watching scripted television. The writing is superb. The way it is filmed is superb. It feels like you are watching real people living real lives.

I binge watched it all until the small hours of the morning. It was a gut wrenching watch, especially two months after a breakup but I have to go in and rewatch. I'll read the book too, analysing every part of it inside out because theres just something so captivating about it. Its rare to find something so real in every way possible and I haven't had such an intense emotional response to something like this in a long time

It is, for the caracthers Connel has to go throught it alone and hes mental health is better, and Mariane in the Mid season said that she would to anything to make Connel happy even tho she doesnt like it, at the end she doesnt go with him cause she wants to find her own way by herself.

I havent finished the series yet. Im on ep 3 and i wanna drop it. i dont really get why everyone likes this. The characters are frustrating and the editing is very unnatural (like its trying hard to capture normal people's lives but ending up really looking like pick mes) The lines are fine but very juvenile.

It's not a satisfying ending. The love of your life can't be replaced with anyone else.
@twinsbrothers6253Ай бұрын
yeah, but whole show was about their growth . How they begin to represent their feelings in the end was the core.
@dianasilva69967 күн бұрын
I think it is. Specially for Marianne, she founds that she is worthy of good love, she starts to love herself. And that is the most beautiful thing.
@swunt107 ай бұрын
Yep, this story is great and also depression inducing at the same time. I'm glad I found it by accident and watched it (all in one sitting since it came on TV) but it also made me sad to no end since my life is shit and then seeing a beautiful love that I never had and most probably never will and then on top of that even their love being depressing and not working as it should. Fuck me, even as a guy this is a bit too much.
@emj118120008 ай бұрын
your initial reaction was spot on with mine, i have since rewatched this series too many times to count and even read the book along while i watched the season and really appreciated the small changes that were made for the tv adaptation. Mariane and Connell...endgame for me. truly gut wrenching at times. Connells anxiety and depression, him saying i love you, but then doing some really dumb things. but the way he looks at her...says/shows his love for her more than anything. Mariane's willingness to do ANYTHING for Connell and all the times she forgives him. Yet she really had a messed-up childhood and probably was never told she was loved, yet she is unable to say it back to Connell until we get to the end of the season. i am curious...did you watch/read conversations with friends?
@lolalulu428 ай бұрын
Question! In the series does mariane ever say I love you to conell? If anyone is able to pinpoint to me when she does cause I didn’t catch it. The only time I remember she did was at the New Year’s party (last episode) when they kiss she finally says it back to him.

I just saw it because a tiktoker recommended it, binged it as well. Heartbreaking for this 50 years old mom who is made to see how hard it is for the young generation. Not that we had it easy but not as complex.

My heart bled for Marianne- couldn’t understand why she was hated by her family and kids at school. The brother was especially toxic.
@senai795 Жыл бұрын
I think the brother hated her b/c he knew she was better than him, knew she was capable of flourishing in life and didn't feel that way about himself which directly threatened his self worth, family reputation, and masculinity. I believe it also had to do with the fact they didn't have their dad in their lives mixed w/ how bitter, unhappy, and distant their mother was. I also believe the mother was jealous of her and her bright future as far as success and love. I just finished watching it today, great show.

This story reminded me of The way we Were. Robert Redford was those “ golden boy “ who was very popular in college and Barbara Streisand was very smart and had always thought highly of Redford. But, their social and economic backgrounds were completely different. In the end of that story both were unable to overcome their differences. Break up but years later see each other from across the street. Their chemistry was insanely good as was Edgar- Jones and Mescal in this story. It was so emotional and heartbreaking. Normal People makes one think and feel more than any other series/ movie out there. The acting was so real and authentic. You get so entranced in the story and forget they are “ acting”!!!! This series blew me away. I was late watching this but so glad I discovered it!!!!!! SO GOOD😊

Such a great analysis of such a great show and book. I agree, the ending is perfect. Even after two years I still oscillate between them getting together for all time and going their separate ways. They helped each other overcome huge hurdles no doubt but of the two, Marianne benefitted most being released from the mental scars that were bringing her down. She would not need to be forever grateful to Connell for that however. I'd love it if they did get back together both being spectacularly successful in their subsequent careers. I suspect Sally Rooney spelling it out would not be a good idea however.

The ending was so sad. You make a great point about it tho but I don’t think they will ever find a connection like it is between them with anyone else. Why does he have to go to New York? I just hope he comes back

Personally I dont think they have issues with communication They are still discovering themselves, (you cant communicate what you want if you dont know what you want) and many times throughout the show we have the "right person, wrong time" because that's how life is. Marianne was already dating that other guy when she finally saw connel in college. and obviously she wouldnt just break up with her boyfriend with who she could have been with for months just because her hs crush is back. even if she felt that way, crushes come and go, but i think they are very mature. she wouldnt just break up with him. No matter how many peopl each of the parts date, they have this "invisible" connection between them, and its so amazing because I think it can be explained by the following: the difference between highschool and college puts it perfectly - in highscool, the other people were really "dumb" and had no values, while in college, their friends feel "superior" to everyone else, while being smart. And that's the name of the show "normal people" there is just this life acceptance that marianna and connel have, they want to be correct and have good morals, and everyone except those two seem to be either too uncounscious of their dumbness, or with their heads stuck up em bum's. connel came from a poor family, but is smart, and marianne came from a rich family but is good at heart, in comparison to her brother or mother. so their connection is represented by HS and college contrast, and social status contrast.

Great video! For me, the whole story of Normal People is about evolving and battling within. People can relate to both characters and the book is also ambitious enough to cover all the topics that is essential during that time period and also now. There is only one thing I feel the book is still lack of is length... it's somehow bit too much for one book... while reading the book, I know the writer is trying to convey a particular topic, then it moves on to another one. If there is more depth, it would be perfect! I like the way how it ends. There is nothing to separate them in the end, so they are so brave to embrace the unknown. Love the show!!!! The directing and performance are so amazing!
