1. The Olympics is not sporting broadcast! It’s a federation supposedly with no profit goals. Off course that its not true - it’s an extremely corrupt organization that pretends to be no profit in order to get on the high moral ground.2. If you only know Rowley from tony hawk game then you should research more. If you want to comment about all this issues you should at least learn more about the history of skateboarding. Rowley is not just a famous skater from the old days who made money out of it. Anybody with the minimal basic knowledge about skateboarding knows what Rowley brought to skateboarding. Not just is awesome skating, style and innovations but also an ethos. And it was not for money at all! What he is saying is that skateboarding is a culture (that is why he is respected so much - because he made it even richer. And when I mean rich I mean culturally rich. I won’t go on an on about Rowley’s background because is obvious. He is one of the greats. 3-You contradict yourself when you say that no one should “define” skateboarding and then you say it’s a sport. When you are saying that you are defining skateboarding (even without knowing - this is called dominant ideology) 4 - He is saying very obvious things that just look scandalous because there is a shift on the culture of skateboarding caused by many things (and the Olympics are one of those causes) that push skateboarding into a much poorer culture and that only serve a small group of people who profit from it. The olympics got skateboarding in not because there care about the culture, they got it in because they saw an opportunity of enlarging their influence of an activity and get more power in order to make money and some on the skateboarding culture went along. whether you like it or not this puts skateboarding on the same level of ice skating. I don’t have nothing against ice skating but to bring down skateboarding to the level of ice skating in order to be in the Olympics means that skateboarding has to follow the olympic ideal and skateboarding culture was rich because it went in different directions of those olympic ideals. Skateboarding has its own ideals and to abdicate them in order to fit into the umbrella of the olympic ones is just making the culture poorer. And it’s obscene because this done in reality because of money and disguised as care for skateboarding. Even if it wasn’t for the money it still would be obscene because skateboarding still needs to give up some of their ideals in order to get inside the Olympics . Like Rowley says, what does the Olympics gives back? Nothing. The inspiration stuff is bullshit. Skateboarding was attracting beautifull creative minds before it was in the Olympics. And on a more personal note: you said that “the Olympics inspire more people to skate then Rowley!” Wtf? Even if that was true I would rather watch and hang out with a skater who started to skate inspired after watching a towley part than hundreds of skaters who got in inspired by the Olympics. It’s not about numbers it’s about creativity, beauty and other things. Quality over quantity! And this Leeds yo my last point. Because skateboarding is not a sport, it’s closer to a community and culture informed opinions like rowley s are essential because a community and a culture should choose its own way forward should be

I think the fact that the olympics and more traditional skateboard contests are completely separate things get lost on y'all. This guy is only stating his own opinion, and brings up valid points, but he's not telling anybody not to watch. In any event, Geoff Rowley has contributed immeasurably to skateboarding and its culture, and agree or not, it's important to take in his perspective.
