Kindly make this a pinned comment because I'm seeing people struggling with the same question here. There are 2 types of reinforcements i.e 1. Main Longitudinal bars 2. Traverse reinforcements Under Longitudinal main bars we have Beam main bars and Column main bars Then under Traverse reinforcements we have Column Ties and Beam Stirrups. Ties and Stirrups are sometimes called links or rings but that is not the technical term. The technical term is either TIE or STIRRUP. Under Traverse reinforcements, we also have spirals which is one long coiled piece along the height of the column. In conclusion the only significant difference between the two is that: A Stirrup is a traverse reinforcement in the beam whereas a Tie is a Traverse reinforcement in the column. I hope it helps anyone out there
